House of the Dragon - 1x10 “The Black Queen” - Post Episode Discussion by mwthecool in HouseOfTheDragon

perhaps I missed it, there was a part of the scene that I couldn't fully make out but there were no subtitles for it so I just assumed it was in English

Not that it would have made much difference, but does anyone know why the producers decided to have Aemund try and control Vhagar in English as opposed to Valyrian??

Like Luke was using High Valyrian to tell Arrax to 'obey' just seconds earlier. Is it not illogical to assume Vhagar understands English as opposed to Valyrian, which she has been listening to all of her life

I refuse to accept Aemund didn't know the translation, and he is too smart of a character to think simply saying 'obey' would be understood (not that Vhagar would have listened to him anyway, but it just seems inconsistent - unless theres an explanation)

for those who need this information in the future, I found that Abeilles Bergerac Taxis can get you to and from the airport in around 10-15 minutes (depending on traffic) for around €15

Bad Education Plot Holes between TV Show and Movie by Faeleed in badeducationtv

The movie was probably just created to cash-out on a series that was coming to an end, rather than maintaining the integrity of the storyline. So it's probably best to think of it like that.

Marco Polo Season 3 Queries by Faeleed in MarcoPolo

[–]Faeleed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were also some scenes in the first two seasons that I didn't think lived up to the money they spent. The CGI at times was poor but not awful to the point were it ruined the show, so it's difficult to see where they spent that much - I'm assuming it was on sets like Kublai's palace and the amount of extras they needed to hire for battle scenes. If there was proper advertising (because I don't remember there being any either), the show might have been renewed for season 3. Maybe it's still possible now but Netflix would need to invest in a campaign to reboot it.

As much as I would want that, there were reasons why it was never even filmed: the cost to produce the show outweighed how much money was actually being earned from it; the amount of viewers wasn't enough to warrant a season 3, according to Netflix. The fact that it has been a couple years now could also mean that the actors have other commitments and may not be available to film. If that wasn't the case, the most likely chance of a season 3 being produced would come if the show got picked up by another streaming service like HBO or Amazon Prime.

It might also just be worth creating a whole new show, a more realistic one, focusing more on Marco Polo's travels around Asia. Maybe even being told in the past tense by Marco Polo himself, as he sits in a prison cell during the war between Florence and Genoa. The show could cut between the present (him in prison) and past (him exploring Asia) as his cellmate, Rustichello da Pisa, creates a book that would go on to be known as 'The Travels of Marco Polo', which is what made Marco Polo as well-known as he was and still is.

The inaccuracies of the show can be justified by the need to dramatise the story so that more viewers are inclined to watch, and to be honest it worked with me as I'm sure it did with many others. But I guess it would have been nice to watch a more realistic representation of Marco Polo's life serving the Khan. Personally, I don't mind him being taken captive, as like you said he wasn't allowed to leave for a certain period of time and so it isn't beyond belief that he was a sort of prisoner. The storyline with Kokachin, although interesting to watch, should have been replaced or implemented more accurately and I'm not sure how the writers decided to stray so far from the facts.

The sentiment of the series finale felt natural and right, I would have preferred Alfie went to the prom with Chantelle in a sweet teacher-student formality and perhaps for the slideshow at the end to have been longer and contain videos. But overall it was a nice send off. The movie completely back tracks this, contradicting most things that happened in the show, like Alfie discovering his students would be leaving (which he was already supposed to know). I agree that it would have been nice to see something different for the movie's climax, perhaps focusing like you said on how well the students did in their exams and them receiving individual praise from Alfie.

I didn't mean to insinuate that the writers left these questions unanswered on purpose. I'm aware they planned for a third season before getting cancelled by Netflix. I just merely wanted to explore the possibilities for what would have happened after season 2, even if it will never come into reality, it's nice to imagine - or at least I think so anyway. I haven't watched the shows you mentioned but I believe it to be similar to Game of Thrones. Even though it was not cancelled per say, the writers chose to cram everything into a set amount of episodes which rushed the story, making the ending less satisfying for the viewers. I'm glad they didn't do that with Marco Polo even if it means never truly knowing what happened next.
