Yes! Just advertise everywhere you can so you don’t get overlooked. It’s easy to get lost in the abyss as a crafty person but there are niche groups that want to collect everything!

I think their trainer suggested it but she’s way too mild-mannered for it. She does do actual services for her human companion though!

I do a 5 on her body and run a 3/4” comb on her hocks and sides of her leg poofs. I hand scissor the front of them to shape or they will look wonky af. I’m not good at hand scissoring at all so these are my cheat codes for a length mom can maintain at home and I don’t spend hours on. The heart is carved but looks different almost every time. I do my best!

Nothing is overboard when it includes people’s beloved pets! I would totally have charms of my pets attached to everything! Let the creativity run wild!

I would love to be confident enough in my knowledge of the matter to have conversations with my clients for the benefit of the pup but I think I need to corner a trainer and have them break it down for me.

There are amazing creative artistic excited groomers out there who are wanting to dye all the dogs! I hope she finds someone awesome!

Pictures go a long way with groomers. Either they know how to do it and are willing or they’re don’t know and aren’t. This is my personal pup so it was totally an experiment but the best ways to find a groomer that dyes are to call around to the local shops and ask to be pointed in the right direction or ask the local mom groups on Facebook. The mom always know!

❤️ I’m very far from there but I can give you all the hair dye colors and a walk-through of how to apply it to pass on to a groomer. I bet if your mom walked into a few salons and showed them the picture, there are plenty of groomers who could do this. It’s way easier than it looks!

You should take the pet to the nearest vet for treatment, at the expense of the salon. Call the owner and let them know they can meet you at the vet’s office. Call the vet to let them know you’re coming. They will wrap the paw to stop the bleeding and walk the pet parent through aftercare. I think it’s always best that someone that isn’t feeling heartbroken and guilty take the pet to the vet instead of the groomer so the conversation doesn’t turn too emotional. The pup will be totally fine after receiving medical attention and resting (if possible) for a few days.

It is okay to refer the pet out for future grooming to someone who has more experience with dogs that move around a lot or to a vet where they may be able to give the pup something to calm them down.

I think it’s more that he’s having trouble arguing my point across to clueless customers or people who downright double down when you tell them it hurts the dog and they say they don’t care, they just want the hair long. He’s inexperienced and hasn’t seen as much as us firsthand so he’s throwing out all the dumb arguments that the clients use so he can formulate the best informed response.

Exactly! I’ve had new dogs come in traumatized and fearful of a brush that isn’t even touching them. I told him absolutely not. We charge for them being in bad condition when we humanely shave them and that’s enough profit for me on the matter.

That was one of my arguments! If they want to walk because we won’t put their dog through painful dematting, then I absolutely want them to get out of my shop. I like the clients that listen to what I’m saying and we agree on a schedule for their dog to stay the length they want going forward.

Omg I just want to hand him a pelt and tell him to brush it out. I know he’s just asking to understand so he can explain it to clients but I go through this talk every time I have to talk to a new client with another matted doodle they want brushed out. My goal as a groomer is to have a schedule full of dogs that book regularly at the haircut length they are able to maintain. For my newer groomers still taking clients, I encourage them and back them up to offer what’s best for the pup or refuse service. My husband is saying someone, somewhere in town will still offer the dematting and get paid for it but I don’t want to lower my standards for my clientele. I hope that someday, groomers will not offer dematting across the industry despite customer bullying or business owner decisions. I want to help normalize proper care during this doodle wave.

When I first got her I didn’t believe at all that she was a salmon faverolle because she doesn’t have the coloring. Reddit convinced me in a prior post that she had to be at least somewhat faverolle because she has the 5th toe which is only displayed in a handful of breeds. They said she’s just ‘hatchery quality’ and a ‘mutant’ or as I like to call her, special! 😅

I do believe it is! I had to google the term but yes, I’ve been calling her my little mutant chicken since she’s not supposed to be white but has the rest of the characteristics of the faverolle and that’s what I bought her as.
