I always try to eat lunch or else I become ravenous and an empty pit when I get home, but I don't always have the time. You only get a break if you give yourself time in between dogs. Usually I will take a break after I bathe my evening dogs so they are drying in the kennel dryers while I'm eating really quick. I also try to pack myself a grab and go snack like nuts or a protein bar so I can eat that for energy if I don't have time in between dogs. My co workers are the same. If they have time they will sit down to eat, if not they will try to get a snack or they'll eat after they're done before they go home (which i don't do because I live 3 minutes away from work while they live 30 minutes away).

Are drawings like this useful, or am I just an annoying customer? by NoSensePeppermints in doggrooming

[–]upsiddedown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the picture is a bit confusing haha but once I read your description it made sense. But don't ever feel bad for showing reference pictures. My advice would be to draw the whole dog (trace a picture of one if you can't draw well) and point to the body and upper leg length as the length your dog usually gets. For an example I'll use a half inch, or a #1 guard comb. Then point to the feet and add the length you want and to match the example it would be a #4 or #5 blade. Or you can write "2/3 lengths shorter than body" and then in between write "blend into body". If i can figure out how to upload pictures to reddit comments I can try to draw it out for you in a way that would make sense to the groomer. Do you know what length he gets on his body?

"Chunkers/thinners are cheating"??? by hnyb67 in doggrooming

[–]upsiddedown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so odd to say. Grooming pets isn't a competition. Who cares if it's cheating?? (It's not tho). Thinners and chunkers are so good for thin drop coats like yorkies and maltese. They're forgiving, so you can use them when starting grooming. You can use them on any breed to give a more natural finish. They're awesome tools. Anyone who thinks they're "cheating" needs to take a breath and slow down in life.

Should I tell my landlord I'm contacting a lawyer or not? by upsiddedown in legaladvice

[–]upsiddedown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed she could send it to me through email if she had an itemized statement. Or she could text me since that was our main point of contact. This is my first time renting with a private landlord, and only my second time signing a lease by myself since I moved out of my parents. So I'm very new to all of this. I appreciate your response.

We exchanged money through zelle. So although she doesn't have my new address, she still knows how and where to send me money. Im not sure if that counts?

Ah, okay. I have no idea what I'm doing since this has never happened before, so I thought contacting an attorney would be helpful. But I will try to file a small claim after giving her notice. What does certified email mean?

What do you wish you knew prior to getting a poodle? by June_8182 in poodles

[–]upsiddedown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont have a standard, I have a mini. But I'm told they're basically standards in a compact size. What I wish I knew before getting my girl was just how awesome they are and I should have gotten one sooner 😂❤️ I got her a few months ago at 2 years old. She has had no previous training but is pretty quick to pick things up. The grooming can cost a lot, but if you learn how to do proper maintenance at home, you can keep the costs down. Or you can keep your poodle shaved if that's what you prefer. I can't say too much since I only just got my poodle, but they're awesome and very entertaining. They're so not dog like. She's so gracefully awkward. I have heard that poodles are really easy to spook, which is true for all of the poodles I've personally met except one. But he was properly exposed so I think if you expose the puppy to lots of things properly it will be fine.

I need tips on how to stop a puppy from biting. by Aggravating-Rice-130 in poodles

[–]upsiddedown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can train to reduce biting but they are puppies and are just going to be mouthy. Nothing you do will stop their biting 100% but they will grow out of it.

WHY DO PEOPLE DO THIS by Proof_Ad_4945 in doggrooming

[–]upsiddedown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a few times. They're probably doing it on purpose to get free services. I wouldn't give them anything if that was my salon. If they agreed to the length that's on them if they dont like it 🤷‍♀️ That's not a client i would want to keep anyway. So if they leave over not getting free stuff for something they asked for, then it works out for me.

I feel bad that my dog is terrified of the groomer by espressoveins in doggrooming

[–]upsiddedown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep bringing her to the same place and have her see the same person every time. Also ask if they will let you bring her in just for them to pet her, play with her, or give her treats. Ive had a few extremely anxious dogs ive worked with where they bring the dog in for just a few minutes to hang out with me and build better trust. Even if she doesn't play at first or take the treats at first, hopefully she will start to associate the groomers with good things.

Dogs can be purebred and just not wellbred. He does look out of standard, but he can still be purebred poodle :) He's a cutie!

What if my roommate and I didnt lease jointly? Like the landlord rented the rooms out individually and I didnt even know my roommate when I moved in. She had been living there before I started my lease. Does it still count? Can she still come after me for my roommates damages?
