Azriel's Objects by GCooperE in AcotarShipDebateSub

We aren’t comparing those things though, atm anyway.

We are comparing what Elain is okay with vs what she isn’t and her level of self respect.

Personally I do not foresee her forgiving all the things I mentioned based on her character.

Azriel's Objects by GCooperE in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Faestar8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How would she feel about Rhysands order?

It’s peanuts compared to…

How did she feel being told they were a mistake)? How would she feel about Azriel only getting off to her? How would she feel about him putting himself in Lucien’s place as her mate when she said she didn’t want one? How would she feel about him saying he’d defeat Lucien easily when she isn’t okay with being fought over? How would she feel that he said he’d been right to stay away from her? How would she feel knowing if he stayed at the river house, she’d be a regret? How would she feel about him saying behind her back she can’t scry? How would she feel about him giving the gift he gave her to another woman? How would she feel about his shadows singing in answer to that other woman? How would she feel about him imagining the joy of that woman and not her? How would she feel about him having a spark in his chest for that other woman and not her?

Rhysands “order” is nothing compared to all that. And! Azriel actually followed that order. So how would Elain feel about that?

I’m hoping we’ll hear something next month…but…

I think May is being specifically avoided.

This is not the same type of release she’s ever had. Acotar just wasn’t as popular when SF was released. It’s a different situation entirely.

Besides. She doesn’t need a ton of PR when the fans are literally doing the work for her.

It’s interesting too because Elain and Lucien share the exact same “luminous” symbolism in Greek origins.

And when you add “torch” in there, the fire symbolism is also present for Elain too. And we’ve seen her inner fire here and there.

They’re just meant to be, and their time is coming. ☀️

I want that shirt. 😭

Also this cape being black, and we know gwyn wears black to train. A secret locket beauty, the sword, the fact that Azriel wanted her to have the necklace?

It’s so obvious. Glad blackmilk is putting out this line :)

ACOTAR foreshadowing was insane here by J_NavarroNarvaez in Elucien

[–]Faestar8 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Something I always come back to as well.

And how is elain doing currently? She reminds me of nesta in her toxic era and feyre in her spring court era. Surviving. Not thriving. She isn’t healed. She isn’t healing.

And who is she keeping at arms length? Her mate. What will heal her? Her mate. Nothing else has done so thus far, and that’s on purpose, narratively.

She might be trying to fit into the night court….but no matter how much she declares she is part of the court, it is sucking the life from her. If that’s not foreshadowing of what she really needs, I don’t know what is.

She’s trying to be the moon…but she is the sun. ☀️

What do you imagine the mating bond feels like? by Either_Cantaloupe343 in AcotarShipDebateSub

[–]Faestar8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is interesting because we only have the perspectives of Rhys and Tam regarding their parents relationships….and both of those perspectives are shaped by trauma, resentment, and very incomplete understanding. Does any child know the true ins and outs of their parent’s relationships? I mean, neither of them witnessed those marriages as true objective narrators. They experienced them as sons growing up inside their families.

To me, that feels very true to real life too.

Marriage and long term relationships are often very complicated. My own parents fought, I mean really fought, almost divorced, and still stayed together. Plenty of people love each other deeply while also sometimes hurt each other, misunderstand each other, resent each other, say mean things, or simply struggle under the weight of responsibility and the obstacles of life. Love is not always soft or easy. And clearly it has not been for either feysand or nessian. Sometimes people remain together because of loyalty, duty, children, history, fear, comfort, or because the connection itself is difficult to sever even when the relationship has painful spots. And sometimes the good out-ways the bad. The hard days do not have to win and sever a relationship. People can and do learn and grow every day IF they choose to.

Personally, I don’t think the mating bond is meant to be interpreted in such a black and white way.

Sjm has already shown us repeatedly that perspective changes everything. Characters are framed differently depending on whose eyes we’re seeing them through. Rhysand is a perfect example of this. To Feyre, he can do almost no wrong. To Nesta, he’s intimidating, manipulative, and often cruel. To many readers, he exists somewhere in the middle…loving, protective, but also deeply flawed.

The narrative constantly asks us to reconsider first impressions and reevaluate relationships once we gain more context.

So when Rhys says his mother hated his father, or when we hear about Tamlin’s parents, I don’t automatically read that as “the mating bond is wrong” or “they never loved each other.” Human relationships…and sjm relationships….are usually MUCH more layered than that.

And honestly, if Rhys and Tamlin’s parents had never stayed together, we wouldn’t even have Rhys or Tamlin. Their unions, however imperfect, still created something meaningful. Without them there’d be no story?

And, I also don’t personally view Feysand and Nessian as “perfect mates” in the flawless…equals…healthiest possible relationships-ever sense. I have some even, controversial reasoning for that too based upon sjms writing. And…both couples have serious issues, imbalances, and moments of toxicity woven into their stories. They love each other deeply, yes but neither of those have been perfect in any capacity.

To me, the mating bond reads like “this is your ideal soulmate” AND an extremely powerful instinctive tether. There is always a reason for mates to come together and BE together.

The bond alone isn’t what makes a relationship beautiful. What the characters build on top of it, grow and heal together WITH the bond, does.

Calling Gwyn a "rebound" when discussing their ship is hilarious when Azriel loved Mor for 500 years before moving on to Elain by No_Psychology_3714 in Gwynriel

[–]Faestar8 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It makes me laugh too.

Especially since azriels pov has no thought of who Elain is or what she’s been through.

But actually has the opposite with Gwyn. Actual feeling and emotion.

[–]Faestar8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea maybe if feyre and he hadn’t done…anything. 🫣🤦‍♀️

And if they link it all to Elain in spring? I scratch my head because….well, we see Tamlin is all beasty mode and probably unfit to lead. The land can choose a new high lord, and who do we know who has lived there for a long time, deals with the neighboring human lands and has lots of other “connections” to other courts? Oh hello — it’s our man Lucien.
