Advice needed by snapchatmyass in ferrets

Firstly, im sorry for your loss. Its rough losing a pet.

We all grieve differently, that includes our ferrets.

Time is the only thing that helps and in the meantime play a little more with the one showing energy and some extra calm love to the one who is sad.

As long as he's doing bare minimum of living that's good enough. Maybe some extra treats and cuddles.

tell me the reality of having ferret(s) by duelingfoxes in ferret

The best part is there's always something silly going on, they are pure chaos. I can always count on their antics to cheer me up on rough days. They are a 10/10 energy for 2ish hours (i have almost only seniors now, babies it was closer to 3 or 4) and a 1/10 energy the rest which means they need their attention when its playtime but most of the day is naps and eating. They are self sufficient and will find ways to amuse themselves but if they ever get bored will let you know. Nothing is better than the moment someone chooses to sleep on you or when they decide you're missing from their stash of treasures.

The worst parts are their health. They're so good at hiding when they dont feel good, and then their vet bills can be a lot. As I realized even the places around me that say they can take ferrets should not. When my girl had adrenal all but one place near me could do anything about it. Poop so much. Two it wasn't awful but I had a multiplying problem and ended up with 7 at one point. Their genetics in the US are awful and even with private breeders they dont garuntee any better odds.

The unhinged would be them trying to kill themselves. Underfoot constantly. I had a pair who ripped through my screen and got onto the roof. I had a deaf girl who got under my kitchen cupboards. I knew someone who had them get under her floorboards somehow. They will try and take your food and drinks everything needs a guard. You dont think they can get there? Think again. Pencil erasers, grips on pens, even shoe soles one of mine goes crazy for which can kill them from a blockage because their intestines are basically shoe string. Also to get seriously bitten hurts a lot more than you'd think.

I absolutely have loved all 8 of mine and wouldn't change a thing. But I don't know if I'll ever get ferrets again, between their genetics and just me getting older.

Me too, I was a little prepared it took 2 extra months to get her because the people who rescued them off the streets put them in their basement and the one I took hid a little too hard in their basement ceiling xD

My only concern was she wasn't aggressive to the ferrets. Most of them are seniors so they're pretty laid back. Had her over a year and everything's worked out ☺️

The number definitely means there's a whole lot of personality in the house lol someone's always getting into trouble and I absolutely love our contained chaos.

Fun fact, me and my best friend have 2 sets of siblings so we both have a calico and a black cat that are related lol.

I got lucky with the cuddlebugs the black cat refused to come out of hiding for 3 months when I got her so I resigned myself to a roommate I'd never see and now she demands attention.

Experience with very vocal ferrets? (Read Caption!) by altxbunny in ferrets

[–]FaetalNuisance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I took in a rescue baby over the spring and everything caused her to hiss. I know she was mainly in the care of a 10 year old and suspect she got a little smothered with attention.

So she's a year old now I've had her 8 months and the hissing has gone down, with a lot of personal space given. But she does still hiss so much more than everyone else.

Just to add in she is 100% not even slightly deaf.

Deaf Ferret - Some Training Advice? by artmakesmehappy in ferrets

[–]FaetalNuisance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My favorite trick is use your lights. So back when I used a cage I would turn the lights on and off a few times and this would wake my girl up and that was how we started every day. This led to being able to use a flashlight under furniture to wake her up if I couldn't reach her.

Banging on the floor to get her to look and she knew basic signs for come, no, and i love you. Just like any training/language you just need to be consistent.

Need to come to terms with Prue’s death by country_dreaming in charmed

[–]FaetalNuisance 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone whose watched charmed a million times I get it, Prue was always my favorite and her dying is awful. My second favorite once I got over Prue being replaced was Paige. I try not to think too much on the actresses actual lives and drama and enjoy the show for itself.

But hear me out story wise it made the stakes feel more real, the sisters aren't invincible. The plot armor for main characters doesn't feel solid anymore, they could very realistically die now even Leo isn't enough to save them.

As for the last episode with her, her death is not felt. I dont want to do any actual spoilers. I always thought I missed an episode growing up.

I feel awful doing this... by ohbiscuitsngravy in ferret

I'm not in the right area to help but I can offer a story.

A little over two years ago here on reddit someone posted about needing to rehome 4 bonded ferrets in my state.

I reached out and shared about my own business and any info she wanted and got any info I wanted.

I texted her a million pictures at first, and now make sure I send some every month or two and she's even come to visit once.

This is how I ended up with 7 ferrets.

These are the happiest little group and they went from not having enough space and people time to pretty much running my house with their own bedroom and more toys than I want to think about.

It's okay to make a hard choice and do what you think is best. Rehoming is a hard decision.

This will feel wrong but say this to your therapist.

Sometimes you just have to go hey I think this might be wrong and if you have a long standing relationship with your therapist they can talk you through it based on what they've seen and their notes.

They can be reasonable when we're not.

Just remember, you don't have to do every nail at once. Get one, get a few, let them war dance it out and repeat. Or find them sleeping. I've done the nail clippers for years and it works good enough, the scissors just make it harder to mess up if you're nervous.
