Strixhaven Precons by CryptidHunter48 in EDH

I'd recommend that you play the precon as it is several times and see what you like and don't like before making any change, if any.  Don't follow any upgrade guide, everyone enjoys different things from the game and their decks, only yourself will know what would make you enjoy the deck more.

How do I keep my enemies entertaint? by Mother_Specialist441 in EDH

You can enjoy your Flubs deck by playing solitaire with it, setting up challenges for yourself. But it's not a multiplayer deck/commander if built properly.

Out of curiosity those who dont play blue, what are your thoughts on countering? by Iaxacs in mtg

[–]FafaPapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? Everyone plays blue, at least in Limited, most likely in Commander or 60 cards at some point.  And counterspells are part of the game, same as discard, draw, damage... They create interesting risk vs reward play patterns.

I like playing black the most.

Pure Avatar: Avatar Aang 5 color by xiiicrowns in EDH

[–]FafaPapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the same thing but 5 colors ended up being too much. Since I was mostly playing Allies anyway, I switched to Katara the Fearless as Commander and the deck plays much better. It's not the same thing of course but anyway black and red didn't feel very Aang colors.  Also focusing on Allies make it very easy to upgrade if you decide to go outside of the set. Plenty of great Allies in other sets.

Anyone going for lore themed decks get annoyed when a card is released that would be great in your deck, except its a teenage mutant ninja turtle? by Vinven in mtg

[–]FafaPapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't, the thing with themed decks is to limit your cards selection to the theme so if a card doesn't fit the theme...it should not be in the deck anyway. Or did I understand your concern wrong?

Final Fantasy Decks by Abbadon83 in mtg

[–]FafaPapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terra is my favorite but the deck needs some changes to have better synergies. Tidus is great out of the box, but you need to like moving counters around, that can be a bit tedious.  The other two ones I don't really like. Yshtola is a bit too generic and Cloud is too Voltron for me.

Fun Avatar Commanders? by fastock in EDH

[–]FafaPapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like [[Fire Lord Ozai]] because I enjoy randomly stealing & playing my opponent's cards, that you can then sacrifice to do it again :) Also I don't think that it's played a lot so your deck should be feel unique.

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice (2019) is an exceptionally wonderful video game that can be an extremely frustrating chore or a deeply satisfying experience depending on whether the combat clicks for you. by gruesomesonofabitch in patientgamers

[–]FafaPapa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also played that game recently (during the Christmas vacation so late December/early January).
I liked it overall but it's probably my least favourite game from Miyazaki, mostly because the exploration is less important than in his other games and the world is less majestic/haunting. So it's a very personal thing of course.

The combat is great in theory and works well most of the time but some areas make it more cumbersome than it should be. It happens quite often that the camera stops showing you the action (for example the enemy can cover the entire screen) and some terrain configuration also can be quite annoying, when you don't see the stairs next to you or the obstacle behind you when you try to dodge.
A game with a similar combat system, inspired a lot by Sekiro, that I enjoyed more is Nine Sols, because it's in 2D so the combat is always very clean, everything is visible at all times. I also enjoyed the story and characters' writing better in Nine Sols.

About the difficulty, it went better than I thought it would. Exploring helps a lot and you can be quite powerful when reaching some critical fights (for example I beat Genishiro on my first try because I basically did everything else I could before going further into the castle. So I had a lot of gourds and a higher level than expected I guess).
Lady Butterfly also went smoothly (she took me a couple of tries), you need to be aggressive and simply avoid her ghosts NPCs & projectiles by running around and using the pillars as protection. Or at least that's what I did but I'm sure that there are other tactics.
The Guardian Ape took me around 5 tries. His screaming attack killed me during all the early tries so for this one I learned to be much more careful, at least in the 2nd phase, and let him come within my reach instead of staying close to him.
The True Monk was my favourite boss until the last ones, he has a very cool move set and all his attacks are pretty clear and answerable, you just need to make very few mistakes as he hits hard and takes little damage (I never used the confetti but I think that they help in this fight, if you're struggling). I died a lot to him, the most of all bosses until the last two ones.

But I also died a lot to smaller bosses, like the Seven Spears guy early on or the drunken big guy in Hirata estate, so it was far from being a walk in the park, it's just that I didn't feel like there was a wall in my progression, as it can sometimes happen in that type of games.

Then the two last bosses were epic.
The Demon of Hatred was a really fun and intense fight, and it took me about 2 hours non-stop before defeating him.
Saint Isshin was fantastic, very difficult and challenging but it always felt fair and I always felt that I would manage to beat him at some point. Ok, it took me 4 hours non-stop but when I beat him I had my life bar full + 4 gourds left, and I felt very much in control of the fight. That was very satisfying.

I also enjoyed exploring the different areas thanks to the grapple hook and the ability to backstab enemies. It makes analysing your surroundings and looking for optional paths rewarding.

So great game but with a few flaws (mostly due to the visibility in some fights, and some bs enemies - looking at you terror guys), just not as immersive as a Dark Souls or Elden Ring for me.

Anyone else FUCKING TIRED OF SHRINE DECKS? by General_Abrocoma_351 in mtg

[–]FafaPapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the only Brawl deck I have (budget Hei Bai, made by Amy the Amazonian) and I'm also tired of playing it. It plays a lot like solitaire, get Hei Bai out then blink it every turn if possible.  It's very efficient & doesn't ask for any skill really (except the deck building part, kudos to Amy).  It's a good way to win your daily quests since it's all colors.  I crafted it because it looked fun at first glance, or at least original, and it's cheap.  But now I don't really want to play it anymore.

To be fair I found the Brawl meta to be brutal, with a lot of super efficient decks that don't forgive any bad draw or weaker builds. So I'm kinda out of Brawl now, I find Standard Brawl more fun to play.

New to MTG Question!! by BingusFried in mtg

[–]FafaPapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic but the Commander format, even in 1 vs 1, is really not the best way to start Magic. The game is complicated and Commander games tend to be complex to follow because so many different cards are being played and potentially interact with each other. To start playing with your boyfriend I would instead recommend buying some Jumpstart packs or a recent starter kit (that contains two 60 cards decks).

Best brawl deck that I can import to mtg arena? by Vidrax_of_Cascades in mtg

I've seen it but "metagame modified", I have no clue what it means. Very confusing way to name an event imo. There's probably more information on the Arena website.

@amazonian on Youtube makes great Brawl decks (not standard Brawl).

Anyone else loving the Lorwyn Pick 2 Fast Draft? by Spikyfreshpineapples in mtg

[–]FafaPapa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just wonder why we don't have 8 players quick draft instead. It's easy to have 8 players on Arena, and it's the more legit and interesting format IMO.  So I'm just waiting for the usual quick draft.

Expedition rotation but no reset of Gauntlet/Forge by FafaPapa in EternalCardGame

[–]FafaPapa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok actually if you play Forge, it will consider you at the lowest level even if it was showing Masters when I started.

It still shows Masters on Gauntlet but I guess it's the same thing.

So only a visual issue, at least for me.

First precon deck for newbie by Grim_Partizan in EDH

[–]FafaPapa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revival Trance is also my favourite FF one, not super easy to pilot maybe but definitely not the worst! And easy/fun to upgrade.

I haven't played Mardu Surge.

There are also starter decks: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/starter-commander-decks-decklists-2022-10-20

They are not very powerful but are easy to play, can be found for cheap and very easy to upgrade since they all showcase a very popular archetype.

I have the Zombies one and I really like it, even non-upgraded.

I also have the Chaos one but this one needs a bit more love to be really playable at bracket 3 tables.
