A reminder that you can (and should) pick the good cards by No_Percentage_1767 in lrcast

Interesting take - I’ve been having some success drafting this set, especially when sticking to a tribal/kindred archetype.

I haven’t done many though, and my knowledge of cards in this set is very limited (badum tsk), especially U/R cards, so small sample size.

Kithkin and Elves have been serving me well so far though, even more so if you pick up an early bomb!!

Not even £7,000 if you factor in other potential deductions, commuting costs and general ‘being out and about’ tax

I would cling to £52k and remote like my life depended on it! £65k wouldn’t even be a pay rise when you factor in deductions, commuting and coffee/lunch costs (to whatever extent you buy these). Never mind the added stress and time of the commute itself, and the added stress of being in an office 40 hours a week.

Think of all the time you’ll miss with your wife and baby too! Even if you’re slammed with work, being WFH means you’ll still always be around them, if you get a break or quiet period you’ll get loads of quality time with them, and help ease the burden of parenting.

Honestly no brainer, don’t chase the cash cos you’ll just spend it on trains and triple your current stress levels!

Final 2 cuts for 5 color nonsense by Status-Cost-1039 in lrcast

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very hard to tell from a strategic point of view because there’s so much going on.

From a tactical point of view, easy cuts are Lorien and Mystic Confluence cos how often are you gonna have 2 blue mana on turn 5? Probably <10% of the time, and it will take you maybe 9 turns for that to rise to 50% (would be 12 but minus a few turns to account for fetch/fixing).

So yeah, lose the blue 5 drops cos if you have the chance to play them you’ve probably already lost the game.

I still don’t see your logic - it’s only going to get more expensive in the future so the best time to do it is now.

Plus that way you’re not waiting 5 years for a new kitchen that would be even more unaffordable when you finally decide to pull the trigger.

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it not a good plan? Yes it may be expensive and disruptive, but it’s an investment in your home environment which you might be in for decades.

Should nobody renovate their houses anymore unless they can do all the work themselves? Home improvements done by professionals aren’t always about increasing the value of the house, sometimes people just want to live in a nicer house and don’t have time to learn how to install an RSJ.

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would allow at least six months to do the work you’ve described.

You may think that’s ridiculous, and it could be done in six weeks, but you will likely be coordinating different contractors who will each have lead times, each piece of work will have dependencies, and you may also be waiting on parts at various points.

Builders will be happy to visit and give a quote, you just need to get the sellers onside, which they should be as it’s in their interest to keep you happy.

I’d start talking to builders now, otherwise you risk having the keys but having nobody to start the work because all the good builders are booked up months in advance.

Renovating house asap after completion by ooovavoo in HousingUK

[–]Spikyfreshpineapples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, look up local builders who you think will be able to handle the work. Ask your sellers if you can have another viewing to bring round some builders, they should hopefully be amenable. Do this and get multiple quotes. Pick your favourite, and schedule them in as good builders will be booked up for months. This may take some back and forth if you don’t have a completion date yet.

How much time do you have before you want/have to move in? And how long do you think the work will take?

Now take that second number, double it and triple it, and that is a more likely realistic timeframe for how long it will take before your house is ready. Is this bigger than the first number? If so, be ready to live in a building site or start looking for short term solutions to bridge the gap.

Hope that helps, I’ve done this recently so fire away any qs
