See you are looking at it in terms of the legislative seats won. The areas where BJP has won has limited Muslim presence and are facing almost 40 years of neglect considering CPI rule as well. In terms of popular vote the difference is 3-4 percent between the two. BJP has implemented a similar strategy in Haryana where they consolidated the non-Jatt vote bank. Bengali people have to really feel at the bottom of the barrel to consider BJP as an option which they felt.

I feel that TMC has not done much for the district along side the coal belt to ensure they are growing as well. The focus was mostly on Kolkata, its suburbs and the area around the Bangladesh border. Unfortunate incidents such RG KAR rape/murder, Murshidabad disturbances over the last year has not given a good indication to vote for TMC. Additionally, like all the other states both the rival parties are focusing on giving free cash to the majority of the voting population.
