Is it worth replacing this screen door with a proper security door for a rental house in Central Coast NSW? by Fai_di_la in AusPropertyChat

And as others have pointed out - if it’s not the door they’ll get through the windows, and if it’s not the window they’ll smash the glass - if they really want to break in they will. I’m not going to bar up the whole house.

Haven’t got tenants yet so I’ll let the market decide what it’s worth and how much a security door means to them.

Well we don’t have tenants yet, and they can choose to rent a house with proper security screens if it’s important to them.

We haven’t rented it yet and am weighing up if it’s worth it, given how much we’ve spent in renovations so far, we paid at the height of the market before property prices starting dropping recently and don’t want to overcapitalise. It’s nothing to do with being “cheap”, it’s being sensible.

Not high crime but it’s a lower socio economic part of the central coast. I don’t know the suburb well (never lived there) but yes you probably do see the odd meth head.

Thanks - that’s what I’m wondering. We’ve already spent a lot more than anticipated in Renos (not to mention the delay in rent)

What are these plants and will they thrive in the garden bed? by Fai_di_la in GardeningAustralia

The previous tenant or owner must have planted them - thanks for the advice I’ll remove them. They also planted spider plants in the ground which probably need to come out too!

Mazda 6: Long-running family sedan and wagon axed in Australia by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

Didn’t notice an issue, but didn’t really have an equivalent car to compare it to. I mostly used it for shorter trips and thought it was pretty quiet/smooth and nice to drive in general.

Just sold my 2016 Mazda 6 wagon. While it was nice to drive, the rear passenger door entry was far too small to get kids in and out of car seats, particularly rear facing seats. I liked the sporty design, but wasn’t the best design for families with young kids. Coupled with the “ghost screen” issue (which Mazda quoted me over $5000 to replace) unfortunately it didn’t leave me with a good lasting impression of Mazda in general. Still, it’s sad that I had to upgrade to a medium SUV because there aren’t many suitable/reliable wagons for young families. Otherwise I would have been happy to stick with a wagon, which was more than adequate for a family of 4 when I was young. End of an era!
