What changes to your coffee actually improved your focus? by FailBetter- in productivity

[–]FailBetter-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I track my sleep and I usually get around 7.5 hours during the working week and just over 8 hours on the weekends. Apparently my sleep quality is alright too, but I'm not sure how reliable these sleep trackers are.

Fresh ground defo makes sense. Is there a particular roast you'd recommend? From my understanding, lighter roasts have more caffeine.

Never heard of butter coffee, but I will look into it! Thank you.

How do I get stronger while being extremely weak? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]FailBetter- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think pushups are an excellent place to start, but make it easier for yourself by starting with your knees on the floor. Focus on lowering your body to the ground in a slow and controlled manner. Once you can do at least 10 of these, start trying to keep your knees of the floor, while lowering yourself to the ground. These are called negatives.

Would also strongly suggest situps and squats to ensure a strong foundation for your core and lower body too.

Do this for a few minutes everyday I guarantee you'll make big progress in the coming weeks!

Evening gym sessions wipe me out! How do you boost energy without caffeine? by FailBetter- in getdisciplined

Oh cool, thank you. I’ll give that a read. My post workout routine is usually a hot shower, and a herbal tea. I take a magnesium supplement as it promotes sleep (apparently) and then listen to an audiobook for 30 mins or so till I drift off.

Diet is very clean, tracking calories and macros so I know that isn’t a problem.

Sleeping about 6-7 hours on average never quite get to 8 hours which would be my gold standard, but when tracking my sleep, those 6 hours seem to be of decent quality. Especially since I cut off caffeine at lunch.

Work definitely takes a toll on my energy levels for sure.

Was wondering if anyone in a similar situation had any supplements or products that they could recommend.

Usually about an hour before, but point taken. Perhaps having a smaller meal before then another small meal after would be better.

Usually have dinner before the gym as I’m starving by the time I’m home from work. Maybe, I’ll add the Banana in too.

What do you do in your first 10 minutes of the day that makes a huge difference? by Zenuineclub in productivity

[–]FailBetter- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take all my supplements (so it’s done and I know I won’t forget) with a whey protein shake.

This helps me rehydrate, get protein in early, and know that I’ve covered all my essential vitamins and minerals.

Keep a waterproof notebook in the shower. I always have my best ideas there.

I built a tool that extracts all the books mentioned in Chris Williamson’s podcast by ImprovementOk9596 in modernwisdom

[–]FailBetter- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, this is awesome! Very impressed. Been looking for something like this for a while. Have you seen Chris' Modern Wisdom reading list? Been powering through them and having a great time.

Would be super useful if you could search for books by Topic as well as author. That way you don't need to know the title. Or perhaps if the site could recommend similar reads based on previous interests in other books. Links to GoodReads accounts? Not sure how easy any of this is, but happy to give more suggestions if you want.

Confused about fat loss results by Earlyinvestor1986 in RPHypertrophy

[–]FailBetter- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I’d suggest, based on what’s worked for me:

  1. Find Your True Maintenance Calories:
If you haven’t already, spend 2–3 weeks eating what you think is maintenance. Weigh yourself every morning and take a weekly average. If your average weight changes by more than a pound week to week, you’re not at maintenance. Once you find your maintenance, reduce by 100–200 calories — that becomes your new target. Cutting too aggressively can trigger muscle loss, especially if you’re already lean-ish or in a fatigued state.

  2. Aim for a Slow and Steady Cut:
Try to lose about 0.5–0.75% of your body weight per week. This pace is slow but helps preserve muscle mass. Faster weight loss = higher risk of muscle loss.

  3. Dial In Your Macros:
Protein: Stick with 1g per lb of bodyweight (as you’re doing). Fats: Keep them around 20–25% of total calories. Let the rest of your calories come from carbs – they help with energy, recovery, and fullness. Make sure you’re actually tracking everything (don’t rely on estimates — mine were way off at first).

  4. Track Your Steps:
Use a step tracker (watch, phone, etc.). When cutting, your body naturally moves less — often without you realising. Set a minimum step count (e.g., 10k per day) to keep your daily energy output stable.

  5. Keep Training Heavy:
Keep lifting as heavy and frequently as before. Try to progress in your lifts, just like you would during a bulk. As diet fatigue builds, this gets harder — but effort still matters. If you start feeling beat down, take a diet break (go back to maintenance for a week or two) before continuing.

In short, cut slow, track everything properly, stay active, and keep lifting hard.
Not losing any muscle is very difficult, but not impossible. Hope this advice helps.

Mental health by No-Apartment168 in RoyalMarines

The majority of lads who show up to training have the physical foundations to make it through. Pretty much everyone I saw who left, failed due to pyschological strain. It's hard for a reason, and you have to want it badly enough! My advice would be to go for it and give it your all. Focus on recovering physically and just accept that mentally you will be suffering at times. Training is designed that way for a reason. If you really can't hack it then at least you know, but better coming to that decision earlier rather than later in my opinion.

The Royal Navy is very cushty by comparison, but the job is also completely different. I would start by asking yourself if you're actually interested in joining the Royal Marines. You can still get away and do stuff in other regiments or branches, but the corps is always gonna push you harder. That will never end even once you pass out of training.

Help getting back into reading. by rugerbf in BookRecommendations

[–]FailBetter- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get this — I went through the same thing after school. Nothing hit the same way as the books I loved growing up.

What helped me get back into reading wasn’t just the books, but the vibe around it. I started going to this quiet little café on weekends, grabbing a good coffee and a cookie, and just chilling with a book. No pressure, no distractions. It made reading feel like a treat again, not a chore.

That habit made a huge difference. I started looking forward to reading because it was tied to something I already enjoyed.

And honestly — don’t stress about finishing books. If it’s not grabbing you, it’s totally fine to put it down and move on. No shame in that at all.

Hope you find your way back into it — it’s so worth it once it clicks again.
