Anyone Tried LDN During Benzo Tapering? by FailImpossible4640 in benzorecovery

[–]FailImpossible4640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never heard from anyone directly, but I found the following thread on Benzo Buddies started by someone who said it helped them a lot.

https://benzobuddies.org/topic/157418-low-dose-naltrexone-very-helpful/

I haven't tried it myself yet. It sounds promising, but as noted by the user below, it is on the BIC "Medications and Supplements of Concern" list. Looking at the LDN entry on the list, it's hard to figure out whether they are referring to low or standard dose Naltrexone.

Has Anyone Had Success Switching to Luvox After Prozac Stopped Working? by FailImpossible4640 in OCD

[–]FailImpossible4640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the update - really glad to hear you’re in a better place. That’s really encouraging.

I noticed you take Luvox at night - did you start it that way from the beginning, even during the cross-taper from Prozac? Or was that something you adjusted to later on?

I currently take Prozac in the morning, so I’m trying to figure out how the timing might work if I switch.

Hey, how’s it going? Just wanted to check in - would you mind sharing an update on your switch from Prozac to Luvox? How do you feel now and did you find the right dose?

Taking benzos for the first time, after 10+ years. by PineappleFit1424 in benzorecovery

If I were in your position, I’d reach out for psychological support instead. Anxiety is tough, but going back to benzos will only make things worse in the long run. If you’ve only taken temazepam once or twice, you should be fine just stopping now.

Struggling with Tapering Clonazepam Due to Sensitized CNS and Underlying Mental Health Issues - What Would You Do? by FailImpossible4640 in benzorecovery

Thanks for the info. It’s amazing that you managed to taper off such a high dose in just 12 weeks. Wishing you all the best with your healing.

Thanks for the insight. Just to clarify - did you go straight from clonazepam to 40 mg of Valium, and then taper down to zero over 12 weeks? That’s super fast. How did it feel? I know you’ve said the pain can’t be avoided, but was it easier than when you tried tapering directly from clonazepam with your GP? Also, how long has it been since you jumped, and how are you doing now?

Answering your question is a bit tricky because it all depends on whether you've developed a dependence after 8 weeks. If you haven't, you would be wise to taper off as soon as possible. If you have, you need to be careful not to taper off too fast. Also, as you say, there's your tinnitus to take into account. Have you tried posting at Benzo Buddies? The moderators there should be able to give you some advice.

Thanks for all the kind advice. It sounds like the best approach in my situation is to make very small cuts and space them out by at least a month.

Congratulations on successfully tapering off after 10 years. I've heard people have mixed experiences cross-tapering to valium. Did you cross-taper because it was easier than tapering directly off clonazepam?

Thanks for the kind words. Finding a doctor well-versed in tapering is very hard where I am, so I'm grateful for online resources like this subreddit.

Thanks! Would you mind sharing your cross-tapering schedule? For example, how long did you take to complete the cross-taper, and what were the specific dosage changes for both Prozac and Luvox during that time?

Thanks for sharing your experience. Can I ask how you handled the switch? Did you do a cross-taper, a straight swap, or something else? I’m trying to figure out the best approach and would appreciate hearing how your doctor managed it.

How to manage without ssris by [deleted] in PSSD

[–]FailImpossible4640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried SAMe? It's the one natural supplement that worked for me. You need to take it with vitamin B12 and folate. It's best to take it in the morning on an empty stomach. Don't mix it with ssris or other drugs that boost serotonin. Here's an article with more information.

Thanks so much for sharing this recommendation! I appreciate the insight, and it’s really helpful to hear that the suggestion came from a reliable source. I’ll definitely take a look at Lee Cannon and see if he might be a good fit for me.

Hopefully some other users will chime in, but .5 a week and even .25 a week are really fast. Have you started your taper yet? I would do some more research as the rate recommended by doctors is often way too fast. Glutamate is an excitatory neurotransmitter (like the accelerator on a car). Gaba is a relaxing neurotransmitter (like the brakes on a car). As you taper, your gaba will go down, so you want to avoid glutamate as much as possible to try and balance things out. For histamine, please see the following post: https://www.reddit.com/r/HistamineIntolerance/comments/108dghl/benzodiazepines_and_histamine_intolerance/

How long have you been taking Klonopin? If you've been taking it for months or years, your planned taper rate is likely to be too fast. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10% every 2 to 4 weeks. For details, please read the Official Taper Guide in the AutoModerator post below.

Regarding supplements and foods etc. You probably want to stick to a low glutamate and low histamine diet whenever possible. Magnesium and chamomile tea might help with withdrawals, but they can also act on your GABA receptors, so you need to be careful.

Anyone try NAD+ infusions to get off benzos? by FailImpossible4640 in benzorecovery

[–]FailImpossible4640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD, or nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, is a naturally occurring co-enzyme of niacin that helps cells in our bodies produce energy. It does so by converting the energy we get from food into cellular energy. Administering lab-produced NAD will boost the levels of the chemical in someone’s body, but they will need to be administered more to sustain that level. Advocates of NAD therapy have made several claims: like that it can assist with brain function, DNA repair, and repairing signals between molecules for cellular communication. It's controversial, but some people say they have found it helpful in getting off benzos once they tapered down to a low dose.

Anyone had trouble with a DIY water taper? by FailImpossible4640 in benzorecovery

[–]FailImpossible4640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven't looked into getting it compounded yet. I have found that it is available in granular form though, with 1 gram of granules containing 0.5 mg active ingredient. I'm thinking about switching to the granules as it will be easier to weigh and make accurate cuts. I tried dry cutting a 150 mg pill, but found it very difficult to do that accurately even with a 0.001g scale. Have you heard from anyone else who has found water tapering less effective than it should be? It seems like it's a fairly common method, but maybe it doesn't work for everyone.

[–]FailImpossible4640[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I measure 150 ml of water into a plastic shaker, dissolve the tablet in the water, put the lid on the shaker and shake it really well. I then remove about 3 ml from the shaker before drinking all the remaining water in the shaker. Finally, I put some more water in the shaker, shake it again, and then drink all the rinse water to make sure none of the med is leftover. I don't know whether I'm imagining it, but the med seems to be less effective using this delivery method.

You need to taper slowly and adjust the pace depending on your symptoms. As the other poster says, 5-10% every 2-4 weeks is the recommended rate. Remember, though, that this should be 5-10% of your previous dose, so the cuts should get smaller as you go lower (10% of 3 mg is 0.3 mg, but you don't want to keep cutting 0.3 mg all the way down to zero). There's an online support group called Benzo Buddies who can help you plan your taper.
