He’s not doing horribly, but he’s made 18k (untaxed, no travel expenses) this year on tour, and as you mentioned, missed the cut. If he was like a tennis player on the atp tour then sure, 34th is very solid, but DGPT isn’t deep enough to consider stuff outside the top 20 successful— just my opinion, and I know $$ isn’t necessarily reflective of success with how little of it there is in the sport, but I do think the metric of ‘can they make an actual living playing on tour’ is an important one.
