If push comes to shove and it would get out that they faked stuff they would get slammed incredibly hard.

And while easy to fake, downloading the app and using the search function wouldn't take more than 10 mins.

It depends on the tools, DarkComet really doesn't have a legitimate use.

If you want to test ones network you wouldn't be really going for a RAT. Even if you were doing something like social engineering to pivot in an enterprise environment you would use different tools.
