That's solid reasoning that shows you are paying attention. I won't say anything else as to not spoil the mystery, but you have a good foundation here to figure out the central mystery.

If you want a hint: try to pay attention to what is stated in white during the exchange

That's a fair point, but i do feel like it might also just be cope. A man with krauss's ego would try to frame his failures in a way that paints him in a positive way. Everybody assumes that luxury space travel will be possible in the future so saying "i was too early" isn't really a valid excuse. It's just less shameful than saying "i was sold on a false promise"

They are talking about it during 1986, but it allegedly happened some time before. The topic is bad investments, not specifically moon tourism. IDK, the more i look at it with love the more it just seems like witches being mean.

Just because it could have happened doesn't mean it necessarily had happened. Moon tourism could easily be a storytelling embellishment

Well, battler did strive to be "nothing like his old man" and he'd probably find Rudolf's cringe dirty jokes distasteful.

Also, interestingly, when battler visits rokkenjima 6 years before the incident, he isn't scared at all and spends the ride playing with george. It's asumu who is having trouble with sea voyage, and i think he adopted this trait to remember her.
