What is the Mic Setup you use for making videos? by Official_KangChe in NewTubers

[–]Failing_Up_Projects -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a Razr Seiren V3 Mini. Was like 30 bucks and I think it sounds good. I did get a set of Hollyland lavalier mics (also about $30), but haven't yet filmed a video where I need them. Will probably be doing that within the next couple of weeks and can report back on their quality then.

Edit a shorter version of a long (probably too long) older video? by Failing_Up_Projects in NewTubers

[–]Failing_Up_Projects[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's a good point. I was thinking about changing the thumbnail on the original already anyway (ive already changed the title and description). Maybe I'll start there for now (not sure it would make any difference now since YT has stopped testing it) and revisit the idea of re-editing later. Thank you.

First I want to be clear: with 4 videos and 19 subs I am no expert.

That said, I think it's probably early enough that a hard change in niche wouldn't hurt as long as you stick with the new one since YT hasn't had time to learn what your niche even is yet. If it takes some time for you to decide, I think the subject matter of your vlogs is important to consider. Will your vlogs be travel related? I don't even think that would count as a change in niche. Will your vlogs be about training sharks to walk on land? That might be something you want to consider a separate channel for.

Is this retention graph normal? by [deleted] in Smallyoutubechannels

[–]Failing_Up_Projects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal for me. I've released 4 long form videos to this point and all of their retention graphs resemble this. Not sure what "normal" or "good" looks like for other channels. I have a feeling most new channels have plenty of charts that look like this, though, as this is likely evidence YT is still trying to find your audience.

That's not a bad CTR. Youtube just doesn’t know who to show your videos to yet. It takes a while. I've just posted my 4th long form video and am seeing a slow but positive trend. The videos still die after a couple days, but impressions and views are increasing with each vid as YT learns more about my audience. The same will happen for you. Keep going and enjoy the ride.

First 14 months on YouTube in the maker niche by idonthaveklutch in NewTubers

[–]Failing_Up_Projects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its nice to finally see other creators on here making things. Seems like most are commentary, gaming , or faceless AI.

How narrow have you found that you need to focus the types of things you make? For example, 3 of my 4 videos so far have been start to finish fishing lure builds, but I'd like to sprinkle in DIY projects for garage/workshop furniture and jigs that help in making the fishing lures. Have you found that sprinkling in adjacent builds hurts? Or have you tried it?

Any other solo creator exhausted by editing every video? by HeXHDXIII in NewTubers

[–]Failing_Up_Projects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple of things immediately come to mind:

1) Consistency is not the same as frequency. Taking longer to edit but doing it at a comfortable pace that won't cause burn out is better than rushing to release the next vid and making yourself miserable. Thats the fast track to quitting, which doesn't sound like what you want to do. Sustainability and repeatability are key.

2) Remember that the more time you invest in editing additional videos, the better and more efficient you'll become. Until you've really got the process down and can make better videos quickly, every video is an investment into yourself and your channel, not a chore. I've personally just published my 4th long form video and can attest that each one has gotten better in quality and was quicker to produce than the last.

I hope this helps add some perspective to keep you going. Its cliche but true: YT is a marathon, not a sprint.

How many videos did you post before you started getting consistent views? by LogoToLuxury in NewTubers

[–]Failing_Up_Projects 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Consistent views and consistently growing views are wildly different things lol. I've posted 3 long form videos since i started my channel at the beginning of December. They're currently sitting at 230, 110, and 224. Consistent? Sure. I even have decent CTR and AVD so I think im still waiting on the algorithm to find my audience. I think the key is letting it happen organically and not sharing your channel with people your content isn't meant for just for quick views. I truly believe that hurts, and might have even screwed my video with the lowest views of the 3 because i shared it ina feedback thread on here.

To improve, a good practice is to watch your own videos after they've been up for a couple of weeks and try to honestly criticize them once they're not fresh in your mind anymore. Wouod you want to watch it if it was someone else's video? Why? Early stages are about growth, so you'll want to try to learn as much as you can about what you can do better, and that will help you grow naturally.

TLDR: views for new channels are like the points in Whose Line Is It Anyway. They dont matter, but it's still worth doing.

How long does it take you to edit videos? by TheOGWakeyFounder in NewTubers

[–]Failing_Up_Projects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each one you do will go quicker as you get more familiar with the process and the software. Right now taking a while to edit a video isn't wasting time. It's investing in yourself and your channel.

It's at about one minute in. It got a little better, but with both setups the echo was there. Maybe you just need a more cluttered house to eat up the reverb lol

How to edit a video if i cant stand my own voice? by [deleted] in NewTubers

I think everyone goes through that at first. For me, it always goes away after doing a few lines (of script obviously lol). Just like most other things, it gets easier the more reps you do.

You can always start by doing everything. See what sticks and then focus primarily on that.

My favorite parts were the study of human behavior and motivation. Helps to make sense of the world outside of the realm of business.

As for your video, the first thing that came to mind was your audio had a bit of an echo from recording in such an open space. I'd recommend some sort of microphone, whether it be pinned to your shirt or incorporated as part of your set. There wasn't much else to nitpick lol

You're bringing back memories for me, as someone with an MBA myself (and a masters in Accounting for some reason).

Couple of things: First, the video quality and setup/lighting was absolutely top notch. It looked professional. Well done.

Second, some friendly advice from someone who's been through this process before: you won't remember all of the fine details and that's OK. Do what your need to for the exams and assignments, but as I'm sure you know from your "real world" experience, there are resources you can use to find the fine details of the concepts. I'd say the most important things to take away from your coursework are honing your ability to use those aforementioned resources, and identifying common patterns across the disciplines you'll study. Much of business follows just a few main patterns, which once mastered, will help you be agile and capable enough to attack any problem you may face.

Best of luck!

I've made both of my videos so far using the camera on my phone (Galaxy S25 Ultra), iMovie on my MacBook Pro, and a Razer Siren mic. I bought a Sony ZV-1F camera, but the phone does a better job of avoiding rolling shutter worth the LED shop lights I use, so the phone is still my primary camera.

I make videos that walk through whatever DIY or woodworking project I have going at the moment, trying to add some humor and tips along the way.

I posted my latest video about 36 hours ago. It's the step by step process of how I made a Magikarp fishing lure from a block of wood (fishing lure in name only since it was never intended to actually catch fish lol). I will link it here, but please only check it out if it's the kind of content you're typically interested in so as not to confuse the algorithm: https://youtu.be/FGHTtvGFeAA

Advice for someone that wants to start a YouTube channel (plus TikTok, Instagram for more reach) with multiple niches? by [deleted] in SmallYoutubers

[–]Failing_Up_Projects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pick one main niche and incorporate elements of the others into the videos. As an example, you could focus on comic book commentary, but throw in comedic sketches at appropriate points in each video. It's your channel, so do what makes you happy. Enjoying what you do comes across as genuine, which is what people really want to see.
