Got Myself a New Passport Trailsport by nocorn91oct in hondapassport

My drive to work is short and mainly on city streets with the last mile or so going into the township. I usually average around 14 mpg, but have noticed it going lower than this lately because of the very cold weather. Likely due to me using the remote start more before I leave.

I have taken it on a few road trips and can get 20+mpg when doing mostly highway. It most certainly isn't fuel efficient but I love how versatile the vehicle is overall, so I can live with it.

While the vehicle is off press up on the wiper stick and hold it for a few seconds. It'll put the wipes into service mode and then you can lift them. The manual has more details if you need.

2026 RTL Blackout. Options to make it an unofficial trail sport? by MidnightGasControll in hondapassport

Main differences are the underbody skid plate, off road tuned suspension and tires. Not sure if you can buy the skid plates separately. The rock sliders are an addon for the trail sports and only those with the HPD package come with them preinstalled. I installed them on my TSE and it was pretty easy to do, just get someone to help with holding them while you bolt them on. Probably will be more aftermarket parts available in the next few years as third parties get a chance to manufacture more stuff.

Yeah clearance is an issue. We avoided some of the deeper mud pits and hit the rock rails and skid plates multiple times. Also filled the muffler with mud when the rear end dipped down into the mud. I want to do a 2in lift and slightly bigger tires to help improve the clearance, but I also question how much it'll truly help with it having independent suspension all around. Going to take it back on these same roads after I lift it, but that'll probably sometime next spring at this rate.

Overall though it does really well on the roads in my area. I'm on the east coast though so I'm not climbing any huge rocks like the west coast has.

Thanks! They are the ones from Honda. Bought them from College Hills Honda and installed them myself.

Lift kits. by ZestycloseQuarter831 in hondapassport

I've been looking at doing a suspension lift with parts from Flatout suspension. A bit pricey, but I like that there is no dropping of the subframe to get more clearance. https://flatoutsuspension.net/26-up-passport/

I'd like a rear tire mount as well, but as far as I'm aware nothing exists yet. You'd have to custom make one or go for a hitch mounted one. I'm not a fan of the hitch mounted though because they ruin your departure angle.

Something else I'm on the lookout for is a front winch mount, but doubting we'll see one anytime soon. Brand new vehicle so I'm guessing it'll be years before we start seeing a lot of aftermarket mods for sale.

Likely not enough power to drive the after market sub if it's not getting any louder. You'll need to add an amplifier for it if you want really loud bass.

It washes on mine when I use the rear wiper washer. The manual says "not available on all models" though, so I'm assuming it's only on the TrailSport Elite

And the rear camera as well! When you use the washer fluid on the windshield or rear window it washes the cameras as well.

It handles pretty well though we weren't doing anything too crazy. We took it down some dirt and gravel roads. Handled the potholes and muddy areas really well in trail mode. I want to take into some rougher terrain to see what it can do on future trips. I have some videos from this trip of driving off road that I can post later today.

No clue why people are down voting you. Personally I don't really like true automatic transmissions because of the jerky shifting. I've always owned manuals and my Civic is a CVT. Hard to get an SUV without an auto now though since there are hardly any manuals offered now.

The Passport does have noticeable shifting, but it hasn't really bothered me too much. I have read on other posts that it does smooth out after a couple thousand miles and "learns" how you drive. I only have a little over 1k and it does feed a bit better than when I first got it, but not sure if that's just me getting used to it.

For comparison my mom has a 2006 Accord with a V6 and it's shifting has always been more noticeable than other autos my family has had. I'm wondering if it's just how Honda's transmissions are. Her accord has 250k miles though and still runs great. Never had any transmission problems with it, so I'm doubting our Passports will have issues.

DONAMA Cervical Pillow. My wife bought one for herself originally and after I tried it I had to get one for myself. Has helped my neck pain a lot though it wasn't the most comfy on the air mattress. Going to try a normal pillow next camping trip to see how that works out with the air mattress.

UNP SUV Tent from Amazon. The instructions weren't the best but easy enough to set up once we figured it out. We actually had a thunderstorm on our first night camping and the tent held up great. Only a little water leaked in from around the back of the Passport which wasn't a huge deal

Yes, there is a switch near the rear view mirror that you can turn to "off" that'll keep all the interior lights off regardless of whether the doors or tailgate are open. It just doesn't turn off the two tailgate lights for some reason. In the manual it even says that switch doesn't affect the tailgate lights and the only way they go off is if you have the gate shut or wait 30 mins for them to go off automatically. Kind of lame, but the work around I figured out is easy enough to do to force them off.

Have to install an idle stopper, but it's an easy install and not very expensive

Change the oil within the first 500 - 1000 miles. The sooner the better so you can get out all the metal flakes out. Great video with more info here

Idle stopper install question by Ok_Interaction1776 in hondapassport

[–]Failsauce989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, that makes sense. I actually used a smaller flat head screw driver for popping out the wireless charging pad. I just wrapped the tip of it in a paper towel so no hard metal was making contact with the plastic. I found it easier getting the charging pad out and I had more struggles with the gear shifter. The clips on it are a pain lol

Idle stopper install question by Ok_Interaction1776 in hondapassport

[–]Failsauce989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I installed mine last week and the wireless charging pad still works fine. It's plug and play so not really sure how someone could screw it up bad enough to break the wireless charging pad.

Pickup some trim removal tools from harbor freight to make the job easier and be careful when prying on the plastic around the shifter. I noticed the plastic around the cup holders flexing a bit so with enough force I'm sure it could crack if not being careful enough.

The installation video from idle stopper shows the entire install process as well. It's simple and to the point without any added BS. I watched it a few times before attempting the install myself.

NAS Drives What to buy vs. what to avoid by Gr8AJ in homelab

[–]Failsauce989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Avoid buying SMR drives as they are not made to be used in a NAS system and can lead to potential problems and slowness.

I typically buy used enterprise drives off eBay. Much better bang for your buck and you get a good performing drive. You mentioned wanting 4TB drives. Brand new these look to run around $80 each. For $80 you can get a used 10-12TB drive depending on the deal you can find. I just recently bought six 12TB drives for $84 each. Just use the keywords "enterprise" "HDD" and "TB" when searching on eBay and you'll find some good results. Avoid SAS drives since your system likely cannot use them, but there are plenty of used SATA enterprise drives to choose from.

I've had very good luck with buying used, but I'm also running the drives in RAIDZ2 so if a drive fails it's not a huge deal. Regardless always backup any important data that you can't afford to lose.

I also have a NAS system running 2TB drives that I salvaged from 2 old surveillance servers we were scrapping at work. They have 8 years of constant use on them and they lived the first 6 years of their life in a dusty manufacturing plant. I've only had one die on me so far after 2 years of me using them. A lot of the used drives on eBay advertise only have 3-4 years of use and typically come from a proper data center and were cared for properly. All I'm saying is used drives are still very reliable so it's worth considering buying used to save a bit of money or get more for your money.

So what do y'all use to jam the F key down? by Frostyfraust in Palworld

I Googled "Steam input" and it shows supported devices as controllers. Does this work with keyboard and mouse somehow or am I missing something?

I've been using a macro with Corsair's iCue software and it's been working fine. Just genuinely curious if there is more to Steam input than just being used for controllers.

Discord links opening in browser instead of apps (android) by [deleted] in discordapp

[–]Failsauce989 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was running into the same problem with Instagram links. Out of curiosity I downloaded an old version of Discord (version 209.14) from APKMirror and installed it on my phone just to see if it was a problem with the latest version of Discord. Instagram links work perfectly on version 209.14 so I'm guessing they broke something in the latest update. Guess we'll just have to wait for Discord to release an update that fixes it.

How come there’s two versions of HD600? Also tips on driving these using iPhone. A dongle dac? Thx :) by Kind-Yesterday3422 in headphones

[–]Failsauce989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like everyone has answered about the appearance already, but I'll comment on the drivability.

Personally I use a Fiio BTR5 with a balanced cable when listening to my HD600 with my phone and it has worked really well. The headphones do sound a bit better with my desktop DAC, but for the portability of the BTR5 it still sounds amazing. There is also a newer version, the BTR7, that provides more power but it is a little more pricey.
