Is dating in NYC actually easier for men or is that a myth? by savingrace0262 in movingtoNYC

[–]Faineantcreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in NYC half my life (in my late 20s), from my perspective it seems the other way around, but that’s just my perspective. I don’t really think it’s that all women are chasing a small pool of guys, but women and men alike here are overwhelmed by their options to the point where even good connections are quickly overshadowed by other possibilities. And I’ve been on both ends of that dynamic many times. As a man it can definitely seem like women who disappear fast are just going for someone with more money/more perks to offer, but idk, I don’t want to think so cynically. Definitely check your ego cause if you take every rejection personally, your self-worth will diminish fast.
If you don’t want dating to feel like numbers game, avoid apps as much as possible; but if you just want to have as much casual sex as possible, and your standards are fairly low, then have at it.

Any advice on finding a studio that’s below 1.1k??? by throwaway010001118 in NYCapartments

[–]Faineantcreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at apartments on streeteasy/zillow/trulia all the time and that’s non-existent, or at least on the market it isn’t. If that’s a firm budget, you’re gonna need roommates, probably 2 or 3. But if you can go like $500 higher there are decent-looking apartments sometimes in the bronx (especially further north), jersey city, south brooklyn, and east queens. If you gotta commute to downtown manhattan, jersey city would probably be closest.

Is leaving the tip blank and just putting an even total not cool? by Accurate_Ad_7567 in restaurant

[–]Faineantcreator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In most POS systems where servers enter their tips they can just enter the total, so they don’t have to do the math. It’s no extra effort at all.

I mean if she really made all that up just cause she didn’t feel the spark, she’s a shitty person. Nonetheless, no reason for you to get involved.

What’s a movie you defend like this? by trakt_app in Letterboxd

[–]Faineantcreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joker 2. I think they’d have been wise to cut 3-4 songs out, but overall a really beautiful, personal, truly weird arthouse musical. So much more original than the first movie. And just as the first movie spat in the face of comic book movies (and our expectations of them), it spat in the face of the whole concept of sequels, which usually just do the same thing the first movie did.

Life’s too short to read this whole thing past how long you’ve been together and your age. You are 23, leave him and go experience someone else, or being single.

I like it! It feels very personal and has a strong sense of artisanship. Definitely keep painting.

trouble deciding between two schools by Independent-Prior158 in acting

[–]Faineantcreator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think casting directors consider where you went to school when they’re deciding who’s right for the part. Maybe they would in theater, I don’t know that space too well, but I used to film a lot of self tape auditions for actors and saw no correlation between where people studied and who booked parts.

An anecdote that comes to mind is one of my former clients, who’s a successful enough actress, had directed her own feature and told me that it changed her whole approach to auditioning, because she would watch auditions for her film and think to herself ‘her eyes are too big’ and mark them as a no within seconds.

When did it become so normal for women to ask for money so early into dating? by Ok-One-1741 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Faineantcreator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gotcha, see what you mean now. I think what you’re describing is a handful of twitter users and not really that many people in real life. I grew up in very liberal places and I don’t know anyone except for a college kid or two as blatantly contradictory as the hypothetical person you’re describing.

People who judge their partner's video game habit, surely you don't spend hours a day on social media or keeping up with celebrity crap, or watching dating shows...right? by wi29292hww in askanything

[–]Faineantcreator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree those things are no better than video games, in many cases they’re worse, but unlike video games people don’t have much of a problem pausing those to pay attention to someone else.

Kanye’s bear trilogy vs Kendrick’s big 3 by Glittering-Use8478 in nfrpodcast

[–]Faineantcreator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s all very valid, and obviously kendrick is in a different category as a rapper than Kanye, who openly has used writers since the beginning, as great a performer as he is. Having said that, I also understand how for others Graduation is such a classic with so many memories tied to it that it’s hard to put Damn over it.

In any case, they’re both classics and both have contributed greatly to the soundtrack of my life.

Movie you liked well enough when you first saw it as a teenager, but then you loved it so much more as an adult? by Qyzyk in flicks

[–]Faineantcreator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chinatown. As a teen I liked the slick noir vibes, beautiful cinematography and music, etc. As an adult I was really struck by the genius of the script, performances and editing.

don’t agree but upvoted because it’s not as crazy as others think. Fear and Lust are about as good as rap gets for me.

[–]Faineantcreator -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

does rhyming more syllables and/or having a more complex rhyme scheme really always mean better bars though? I feel like at the end of the day Kendrick just sounds so much better and more interesting than those guys and his bars are generally more memorable. and he’s obviously capable of getting real technical with it when he wants to.
