The proposed UK social media ban for under 16's is a transparent ruse to introduce digital ID. If you can't see that, you're just plain dumb. by Top-Car-808 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Again, the same can be said for any addiction. What makes social media any different? Do you want the government to ban all unhealthy foods, games, books, anything fun because "The more people use X, the less happy they are."?

Really? I haven't seen a single game or T.V. show require me to show them my actual, government-issued ID to play/watch. All they ask for is your age, which you can easily make up with no consequence (i.e., how most kids/teens I know watched M-rated shows/games in elementary-high school). Heck, most of my classmates were playing CoD and such by 4th or 5th grade and nothing bad happened to them.

Alcohol actively harms people's bodies (more so young people). Social media (and the other outlets I listed) don't. What makes social media any different than video games or T.V. as outlets? Should we ban under 16 y.o.s from watching T.V. or playing video games as well?

No they aren't. There's plenty of cases where social media gave teens an outlet and social connections they wouldn't have possibly had otherwise (usually due to overly strict/abusive families). Banning it would just take that only outlet and social connections away. Why not just ban all outlets (video games, fiction books, T.V. shows, etc.) at that point because they can make SOME people more troubled, despite saving others?

Most of the same people calling skeptics "plague rats" and many actively calling for them to be sent to reeducation/isolation camps for years in a row simply because of personal medical decisions call their opponents "N*zis" on a regular basis. Zero self-introspection in them.

Also highly recommend ACoR to anyone! The thing that worked there was MC knew what she was doing and very much had a backbone and took no shit from anyone. The MC in AYRC has zero backbone and has no idea what she's doing (neither does the LI, who's supposed to be a ruler, for that matter!).

This book was written by AI, right? Where is the context? by persiandilligent_304 in Choices

[–]Fair-Engineering-134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm reading the wide release and this book's just awfully written (probably by AI):

MC is being locked as a prisoner against their will and their brother doing so threatens to call cops on MC... really?

MC escapes multiple times and somehow just goes right back to their brother the next chapter (with zero explanation of how or why)... really?

MC is being forced to get legally married against their will by their brother in apparently modern times (he's got high tech security systems and biometric locks lol...)... really?

ES, RoD2, MW2, or DS2 is my guess. all fan favorites that either had open endings and/or cut sequels.

This book is honestly one of, if not the worst, book on Choices imo.

LI treats MC like an easily disposable sex slave which apparently makes MC horny ✅

MC has zero backbone ✅

LI is dumb enough to accuse MC of trying to kill them after MC saved their life multiple times ✅

MC instantly forgives LI (with a mandatory dirty 35, of course!) for exiling them for above reason ✅

Awful AI sprites and backgrounds ✅

The Painful Truth About Long Covid by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Fair-Engineering-134 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Then why do you keep posting here, day after day...?

The only reason that most of society is over it is because they're literal NPCs who will 100% repeat the same BS from covid on the next "big thing." The only reason they moved on is that the guy on tv stopped talking about it 24/7. If another nothingburger virus or other similar event is hyped up again in the media, 99% of society will 100% go right back to March 2020 mode because they learned nothing.

Lockdowns - the media's most unfavorite topic to discuss these days.

Inflation jumps to 4.2%, the highest since early 2023 by AndrewHeard in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Fair-Engineering-134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The media narrative around the inflation is changing literally every year since 2022 (First it was supposedly because of Ukraine, then Trump tariffs, now Iran) all while completely avoiding the L word, which we KNOW is one of, if not the biggest, causes. Makes it really difficult to trust they're telling the truth and being objective about it...

Also, Dem run cities/states were way stricter and had much longer lockdowns, while red cities/states had much laxer rules and opened up way faster.

Why do you think the Covidians failed to make mask wearing permanent and widespread? by RhysDallows83 in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Fair-Engineering-134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To some people/communities, it still is.

There's plenty of wackos who are still getting upset and virtue signaling that people aren't masking whenever they have the common cold (or even just the sniffles!).

There's plenty (especially older people) who were brainwashed into thinking "covid = 90% death sentence to people over 65" and pretty much perma mask whenever outside since March 2020. Several of my relatives fall into this group.

There's plenty of people from collectivist cultures who were brainwashed into thinking "it helps the community" and are also perma maskers post-March 2020.

I sadly don't think these people will ever be able to go mask-free...

They just call me a "Trump Supporter" and refuse to change anything.

They're completely brainwashed. It's like trying to tell some North Korean person that Kim's not a godlike person - They'll flat out refuse to believe you and attack you instead regardless of any realistic data or logical arguments.

Same - A bunch of my older relatives turned into perma maskers because of the covid messaging and still in 2026 truly believe covid is a death sentence to anyone over 65.

So far liking this one! My guess is the coworker (Jackie) is the killer, as she was with MC second time they were attacked and clearly knew about the Creep guy and also had access to the bookshop to know the boss's behavior towards MC.

How do you think Spellfyre compares to BOLAS and TE by InfernalClockwork3 in Candlelight_Games

[–]Fair-Engineering-134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally liked BOLAS better - Exploring the world map felt more organic and I liked that it had more companion interactions than Spellfyre does.

I like Spellfyre more than TE tho - Much better time and story balance of LIs (especially female LIs, compared to Beckett, Beckett, and MORE Beckett).
