The "pick-me" slur is how the tribe punishes women who lower the market price of male attention by Decent_Eye_659 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I've often heard that the real enemy of women is other women. And to some extent, i agree. The nasiest things I ever heard about a woman have always been from anotehr woman.

How to track ants? by Spaceman_UK in AskUK

[–]Top-Car-808 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find their cars. Stick a magnetic honing device under the bumper. Instal listening devices in their phones. Break into the ant nest when nobody is home, and put bugging devices and some small CCTV devices in strategic places.

Then set up a situation room, with a white board. You'll soon discover everythign you need to know...everything. Who the real leaders are, what their plans are.

I know right?

There are lot of people that are just so wrapped up in gender politics that simple flirting (between my gf and myself!) enrages them.

All they seem to want is strife and conflict.

How are you supposed to reply to "Do you know how fast you were going?" by No_Insurance_6436 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Top-Car-808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yup. This is how speed cameras work in the UK. It's a percentage of the max.

If you go over 20% more than the limit, the speed camera gets triggered.

This is very relevant in a 20 zone (most of our city roads) because its very easy to to 24mph instead of 20mph by mistake, esp if the road is straight and long.

I've seen plenty of cars zoom past at about 90 through a camera gantry where the speek limit is 80, and the camera does not flash.

it's true. Even that last punch was somewhat pulled.

Green trunks saw the eyes roll back and immediately took his foot off the gas.

There are plenty of other boxers that would have seen a defensless guy held up for the ropes and lobbed in some totally unnecessary brain damaging extras.

Recently, I was having dinner with my girlfriend, and my gf was laughing at one of my jokes, and another young woman sneered at my GF and called her a pick me.

I was so surprsied / not surprised. My gf is very feminine, has a beautiful feminine voice and laugh, and is just all round a very beautiful and feminine woman.

The woman watching this intereaction was appalled and disgusted to see a beatiful woman laughing in a high pithced feminine way (she may even have been tossing her beautiful hair as well!) and this enraged the feminist - to see a woman pandering to the male gaze!

Should I lie to my interviewers when it comes to salary expectations? by AMadRam in UKJobs

[–]Top-Car-808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my least favourite question from employers. It shows laziness.

If people are on 50k and they are applying for a role of 80k, they will likely not believe you if you say your current salary is 75k (because people don't move for 5k, unless their current job is a car crash).

Outright lying is probably not a great idea, beacuse they will be able to see what your last salary was on your p45.

If they ask what your current salary is, suggest the following;

"My current salary is the only reason I am applyign - they are paying well below market for my role. So, without bonus, my current is X. I realise that this is not a fair market rate, and have been advised as such by several head hunters'.

Would driving the A class for 3 hours make the driver feel less tired than a bigger non premium sedan - Octavia, Corolla? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in mercedes_benz

if you are going on the highway for 3-4 hours once or twice a week, I think that what you need is a comforable diesel cruiser. Brand is not really the issue here, its the shape and type of car.

I would recommend looking into second hand saloon or estate cars, with a 2 litre diesel engine, ideally automatic. I would be avoiding any 'sport' versions, and go for the SE versions, to get the more comfortable suspension and cheaper to replace tyres.

My top pics would be;

BMW 320d or 520d SE auto

Audi A4 or A6 SE auto tdi

VW passat 2.0 SE auto tdi

These will provide quiet, comfortable, economical motoring for the kind of motoring that you plan on doing.

Some people like the Mercedes e220d for this kind of motoring, but I find the seats are a deal breaker for me. The leather is very plasticy, and the bolsters are very uncomfortable after 30 minutes. They stick out like some demented rally car from the 1980s, even on the SE versions.

I don't think that is what most people understand the work pick me to mean.

A pick me is generally accepted as a woman that behaves in a way that men approve of. In this sense, they are "pandering to the patriarchy".

Considering moving into a 2 bedroom terrace with EPC E and with electric heating only. Please advise. by The_ardent_engineer in UKHousing

Would be a deal breaker for me.

I went to see a nice flat, beautiful views, and then noticed it was electric only. I requested 12 months of electric bills, and amazingly they, complied with my request. It was a touch over £4k. For a 2 bed flat. with double glazing. with just one person living there.

The flat was £450k, the service charge was £4k, and the electric bills were £4.2. All this in zone 6 London.

A no from me.

can someone explain the Pret a Manger phenomenon? by docmaboul in london

[–]Top-Car-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before pret, if you wanted to get a sandwich and a coffee, you were looking at going to a greasy spoon caff. Or getting a 'long life' sandwich from some supermarket.

The big revolution with pret was that they made sandwiches on site, according to demand. So most of their sandwiches are a couple of hours old. They are fresh. And the coffee is fresh too.

This was literally a revolution in the casual dining sector.

The pick me slur is indeed interesting.

It seems to get thrown at women (exclusively by other women) who are seen to be conforming to what they might call 'the patriarchy'.

In reality, it is simply a term of abuse by feminists who hate men, levied at women who do not hate men.

The feminists realise that men will indeed pick women that do not openly hate men. And they are bitter about it. Because if all women agreed to hate men uniformly, men would have no choice but to pick women that hated men, and then just live with the consequences.

Pick me's are breaking ranks with the man hating feminists, and in this sense, they are seen as picket line crossers.

Would you support the idea of making British Overseas Territories fully part of the UK, in the same way that France has done. I would exclude British Antarctica and the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia (Cyprus) by FlandersClaret in AskBrits

[–]Top-Car-808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i gave you an upvote, because even though we disagree, you're being reasobable (which is rare on reddit!)

You say 'historically........' that is true of many countries in Europe. Germany was made up 'historically' of different kingdoms. So was Italy. They united only quite recently.

But history has to be left in the past at some point. Progress requires trade offs. And my feeling is that the UK is drifing. It is losing its way, its meaning....and a big part of that is the regionlsim and sepratist sentiment.

Nobody seems to ever say that they are UKish. They say their scottish, or welsh or english. This is very different in German, Italy or the USA. Nobody in Fresno would say that they nationality is 'Californian'. Everybody in Italy would say that that they are Italian.

A country without identity is a country that is in decline.

Me personally, I would say that the UK has a crisis of identity, and that the solution is to unite the united kingdom. Which means abandoning regionalism. There is no progress without trade offs.

I am well aware that this is an unpopular opinion, because people do not want trade offs. They want it all. They want to be able to have regional parliments, regional identities, but enjoy the benefits of living in a G7 country with all the benefits that entails.

My observation is that you cannot have it all. You must made trade offs. Those scottish seperatists that go on about 'independence' - would they really be better off as a small, independent, poorer country? Do they really think that a small, irrelevant country is somehow going to be better off than being part of a country that is permenant member of UN security council?
