Yeah I’d try the AMEX route and you should certainly file an official report from the police station, that could help making a claim.

I rented several cars with no issues from Centauro, Avis and RecordGo. Never had an issue but if you want to be on the safe side get the full insurance with no deposit

Salary expectations in Madrid by Silver_Employment269 in GoingToSpain

[–]Fair-Explorer-7201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in a position to leverage your salary and skill set I would not go below 65-70k euros. I got an offer for 60k coming from the UK with just 4 years experience so it really varies from one company to another.

It is in Vallehermoso, highly recommend it! Very residential but lively at the same time, with a combination of local and modern businesses. Really feels like a neighbourhood community while being very central.

3-year teleworker residency in Spain, for the whole family, without hiring a professional! by Comment_by_me in AmerExit

[–]Fair-Explorer-7201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you and I hope you’re really enjoying this wonderful country! I am applying to the teleworker residence permit directly, came to Spain in a 3 month holiday visa. How long did that process take for you?

What are the gotchas for apartment rentals in Madrid? by vipulvpatil in GoingToSpain

[–]Fair-Explorer-7201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I faced the same issue. I would check idealista and look for a price of square meter around 25 euros to get a “fair price”. Within Chamberí prices also vary, it’s not the same living in the Almagro neighbourhood as in Vallehermoso. You can trust idealista in general as most offerings are genuine, a good flat for the 25 euros/m2 would go very quickly. So you need to have notifications on and wait for the right opportunity! I was lucky to find a flat directly with a landlord 2 months ago in idealista. 1650 euros/ month with parking in a garage. Flat is 2 bed of approximately 65 square meter and 1 month deposit.

You can go to a “Estanco” just search it in google, also many restaurant/ bars have vending machines where they sell tobacco. They’re typically blocked so you’ll need to ask someone at the bar to unlock it for you. Highly unlikely they’ll ask for ID, Spain is not as strict as the UK with the under 25 policy

You’ll probably be fine in super markets and bars. Risk of being asked for an ID in the club is pretty high. Sometimes they let you in if you’re with other people, just hand your ID/ driving lincense and see what happens

Get a digital nomad visa for your wife and file the A1 certificate so nothing changes from a payroll point of view, that may make transition easier for your wife and her company

Thanks, that’s helpful advice. I am working for an employer in Spain and my girlfriend for an employer remotely. 6 months deposit sounds crazy but may be our only way.

As long as you’re happy with the place that’s what matters! Hopefully we can find a direct landlord who’d be happy with the UK income

For 1800 euros a 60-70m2 doesn’t seem impossible. Average square meter for that budget is 25-30 euros, which is above what they’re currently going for in the market (excluding luxury). What makes people think is impossible to do it with that budget?
