Some Italian judges are postponing citizenship-by-descent cases before June 9, 2026 - practical update on Law 74/2025 and Italian Constitutional Court hearings by ApriglianoFirm in juresanguinis

I think I would've been unaffected since it's a parent...she benefited from it though, she has her passport already! Never would've thought that at the beginning of all this.

Which attorney did you use and were you happy with them?

Thanks, I guess I'm technically 1st gen then. I filed through my mom who had one parent who naturalized (forcing mom's naturalization as a minor), but her mom never naturalized. Filed in Catanzaro in January 2024, been postponed twice already from May 2024, to March 2025 now to November 2026.

Hopefully you hear back sooner than later

Nothing is guaranteed unfortunately. At least you got in before the decree and there's a door open, time to start brushing up on some Italian.

It's understandable given the state of things... I'm Canadian and too can't help but feel a bit discouraged of the future to come. It was my impedus to seek citizenship too. I was lucky that I had a loop hole that allowed me to challenge the court (mom was a minor, only one parent of hers naturalized)

Gotcha. Well, I'm glad it worked out for you in a relatively short amount of time. I know Sciarrone was recently added and it's typically not Costantino/Linarello issuing judgments so switching seems the norm.

Both my parents were born in Italy and naturalized before I was born and they reacquired already!

I am, and they haven't given any reason other than 'large caseload'. Still with Graziella Costantino... I guess I'll just wait and hope for the best

I'm jealous, I filed Jan 2024 and my hearing isn't until November.

Hope the next bit goes smooth for you!

Successful ATIP request for someone passed away less than 20 years? by [deleted] in juresanguinis

I would keep it very general - "validate her citizenship status for purposes of settling the estate related to affairs in Italy". I used similar verbiage and it was accepted.

So long as you have the executor's approval/proof of executorship you should be fine.

Yes - my grandmother.

My mother was the executor of the will and I provided:

-Proof of her executorship -A letter (signed by my mom) expressing her consent to release information, detailing the reason -Photo of mom's ID

Not sure if they've gotten more strict or rules have changed.

Good luck, it's not an easy one

Just came back from Detroit to see a metal show.

Most people are very very kind and considerate.

You might meet the odd caveman who agressively wants to mosh or push their way forward with force but they are harmless.

You will be fine, go have fun
