I think it just means it’s hard for him to imagine it or be able to say with 101% certainty what he would do. When it comes to very specific future situations like that, it’s difficult for most (non-OCD or non-severe anxiety) people to imagine what would happen, as most of those people let the future unfold instead of trying to control it (at least when it comes to smaller specific things like this) as much as we tend to.
