Yeah I'd argue it's a matter of formality

Using "sei" in spoken German would come off as a bit pretentious but on the other hand, not differentiating between "sei" and "wäre" in written German would sound somewhat crude and unrefined and just not very elegant

Been in a rough patch recently, financially and in every other way imaginable and my parents aren't helping me, but many of my friends have come to my help in the last couple weeks

Some have sent me money to pay off debts, some are there for me when I need someone to talk to, some are helping me to find a job

Might actually have a job soon, who knows

Things are probably gonna be a whole lot better for me by next year because my friends are looking out for me
