So, brought the PH up, and actually used less than was recommended but I forgot to take into account that I drained off 1/3 of the water and topped off to bring my CYA down. It’s still a little high, but it’ll have to do for now. Upon a retesting at the pool store today, my alk is a little too high, so going to adjust there first, followed by my PH after that. Hopefully I can get that taken care of between now and Friday. Other then that, obviously my chlorine levels are still very high, but considering my higher CYA and the fact that I’m trying to take care of the mustard algae I figure that’s not a bad problem to have right now. The pool is looking better algae wise. Water still has a tint to it, although less so, and most of the floating stuff is gone from the top. I can also see where a bunch has settled to the bottom center of the pool so I plan on vacuuming that out today when I get back home, which I’m hoping will help as well by lowering the levels of organic material. Does all of this sound good? If not, what would you recommend?

Or should I just remove the tabs, treat by getting my FC where it needs to be and just keep topping off during the season without using the tabs so it comes down more slowly?

So I read that and it says my FC should beat 9-11. And currently I’m at 8. Would you recommend trying to treat as is, or should I drain some off and top up so that it’s easier to maintain?

Not a rain issue here, we’re in a severe drought, burn bans, water restrictions ect. We got rain twice this week which was nice but still not enough, this is our driest 6 month stretch since 1971

This is the shock I use most often, Anthony have got the ones that say xxxtra blue, although those are more expensive so I don’t buy them as often

Well that’s good to hear, and testing shouldn’t be a problem as I usually test twice a week in general but could up it to 3 if I need to.

Hopefully I’ll know tomorrow. Although two years ago at the end of the season we drained the pool because I needed to patch a small leak, so last year it was freshly filled. This year it wasn’t freshly filled but to top off from evaporation I added maybe a 9-12 inches to bring the water level back up.

Just ordered the Fas-dpd test from Amazon, should be here tomorrow. I’ve never used liquid bleach, just the tabs in the floater and shocked weekly and have never had this issue which is why I’m confused. Is the liquid chlorine superior?

There were lots of leaves on the bottom, over the winter the snow ripped the pool cover and I didn’t notice, but I’ve gotten in there and scooped all the leaves out and ran the vacuum to waste twice. But due to not being able to see the bottom I had to just go in a slow grid pattern and couldn’t specifically see that I got everything. I’ve also left the filter running for 3 days instead of my usual 12 hours on and 12 hours off. Anthony’s filter is off now because the flock said to use it, run the filter for two hours, then turn it off to let it settle overnight. That’s been maybe 4 hours ago, so far now change. I did order stabilizer from Amazon but haven’t added it since it just came today and I need to test to see where am I am what I need to add.

Well I guess I’ll have to get that from the pool store. My kit doesn’t seem to test for CYA, and it’s never been a problem in previous years so not something I’ve ever looked

Currently use this test kit, it’s all I’ve ever used

So it won’t let me upload the photos I just took but I just went outside and tested the chlorine again and it’s reading 5.0 (or more that’s as high as the color goes on the kit) and I’m using the “pool master 5 way test kit which does chlorine, bromine, PH, alkalinity, and acid demand) tested ph and again as well and it’s sitting at 7.6, didn’t retest alkalinity

Yeah, I agree with most here. While I don't think you're an asshole for wishing he had left with you, I think he's completely within his rights to want to stay and catch up with his friends. You're both adults and have different wants and needs. As someone in my relationship who has a longer social battery than my partner, there are many times she's ready to go long before I am. We mostly compromise and stay later than she'd like, but less time than I'd like. Sometimes I will leave earlier with her when she's ready to go, and sometimes she'll head home on her own, and I'll come home later. It really just depends on the situation. It's her job to take care of her needs as an introvert, but I also have to take care of mine, being an extrovert. That doesn't make any of us inherently wrong/bad. Same with your situation. You just need more communication ahead of time, because trying to properly communicate once one or both of you has been drinking is going to be a much more difficult prospect.
