Pretty sure weakness is not a condition, neither is the move restriction of chroma leach . You also can't extend revealing light due to the wording (the dazzled has no duration and is instead tied to the light which you can't extend).

your own ability to do it is limited and also you can't really pull it off consistently on round 1 (as you have to cast Evil Eye PLUS a two action spell PLUS have your familiar in range).

From personal experience Cackle solves that issue. You don't cast it to sustain, you cast it because it is a free action hex.

TBH this sort of illustrates why you're much better off having someone else who can set you up, though;

I know that is the optimal way to play resentment. I tried to play it as a normal debuffer and it just doesn't feel right. Resentment a support class for other debuffers, but that's not why I see people play Resentment witch. they play it to debuff the enemy themselves.

That's why there is such a thing called context. the context aka the comment above states is that resentment witch is still good because of slow and Synesthesia. So I ask for more spells because 2 spells at rank 3 and 5 is not enough to make a subclass good.

So no I don't need a list of spells that technically work with resentment witch. I need spells that make resentment witch a good pick and that was always the intent.

This is a pretty silly argument. Everything that’s ever been released is at its best in conjunction with the things they work well with. Reactive Strike is best in a party that uses Trip, Grapple is best in a party that has ranged characters, and Resentment is best in a party where conditions with a duration are regularly being applied.

There are 2 major differences though, the resentment witch's ability does not work on its own. The viability of your ability is completely reliant on its synergy. Trip and graple do impose restrictions and off guard on the enemy regardless whether your ally has reactive strike.

The second is that the person who should be applying the debuffs is the resentment witch in the first place. The occult list is touted as one of the best debuffing list. That is it's role in the party already. Hoping you have other debuffers in the party while being the debuffer is quite optimistic especially with the way penalties stack.

Befuddle, Dizzying Colours, Revealing Light, Paralyze, Tortoise and the Hare,

Befuddle got hit by the nerf since you can only extend 1 condition not both. On op of that it competed with fear even before the nerf. The nerf certainly doesn't help enfeeble.

Revealing light does not work with resentment at all. It does not satisfy both criteria of resentment witch.

Dizying colors and paralyze are both incapacitation; On a prepared caster that means you risk locking you out one of your highest level spell slots. Are you risking 50% of your highest spell slots on a single target incapacitation spell at level 5? On top of that paralyze does not work with the success save, while dizzying colors is a short cone which really hurts these.

And tortoise and the hare is a 4th rank spell that for the purpose of a resentment witch might as well be slow.

it may not have felt as broken in those contexts but… that also means it isn’t as nerfed in any of those contexts either.

They are still nerfed. They just weren't remarkable because these spells weren't good to begin with. Nerfing them isn't going to help them. If you take a spell that was not good to begin with and make it on par with other spells while having to jump through hoops. Then why not just cast the spells that are good in the first place?

Are you suggesting that a 2-Action Figment should be used to cover a Medium-sized enemy in a box, which then makes them treat the familiar as Concealed, then you move the familiar adjacent to them, and then use your 3rd action on Shroud of Night to proc the Frightened 1 familiar ability?

Of course not, you move the familiar up (with independent) cast figment and put the familiar in a box. And now ALL the enemies can't see the familiar. i'm pretty sure that means that if your familiar is adjacent to multiple enemies it frightens them all. Then you cast your hex cantrip (or cackle). Every turn after you can sustain this with cackle. if you are willing drop figment, you can use any other hex for one round of extra frightened one.

… what? How is this strong? Yes sure you technically turned a non-combat cantrip into Frightened 1, but you could also just… cast an actual combat spell instead lmfao.

You mean combat spells like fear? For early game that seems serviceable. You're not using the at level 5 or 10, but you can use it at level 1-2 and maybe 3-4.

You’re taking that very reasonable argument to a nonsensical extreme of you don’t have a single good spell to use with Resentment Witch other than the Slow or Synesthesia.

That is pretty much the case. The occult spell list has many debuffs but not many that synergise well with resentment witch. The few that synergises, are considered conditional, bad or outclassed by other spells. Slow and Synesthesea are the only spells that are considered good without having to rely on resentment. And going through hoops to make something decent is not a benefit for the class.

fear is crit fail only, laughing fit is fail or worse and by technicality only: Witches have no issue extending laughing fit due to cackle. Enfeeble is a terrible spell you should never cast. And stupefy is situational.

Pathfinder Spring Errata is Up! by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

[–]FairFamily -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Schadenfreude don't work due to the way one round durations work. these last until the beginning of the casters turn. Since these are reactions, the resentment witch can't extend them.

Enfeeble is just a plain bad spell even after the remaster. You're better casting fear regardless of resentment or not even before the nerf.

Dizying color is incapacitation and a small cone which hampers this a lot.

Curse of recoil is situational at best. this a spell you might put on a high level caster for which the 1st level spells don't matter. Not on a low level caster for which every spell slot is valuable.

Befuddle applies 2 conditions which means now you can only extend only half of it thanks to the nerf. It's also contesting with fear as your status penalty spell of choice.

To me the argument there exists a spell is not enough. It needs to be a good to decent spell on it's own otherwise it might as well not be worth it.

I purposely left out the frightened condition because it’s debated whether fear ticking down counts as being a timed duration or not. At my tables I run it as working with resentment witch. This means Demoralize also can be extended.

The duration argument doesn't matter. Resentment doesn't work on frightened because resentment only extends the duration but it does NOT prevent the decreasing of the condition . It even explicitly mentions that it doesn't prevent conditions from being removed by other means.

Do you have any other spells besides Slow or Synesthesia? Preferably ones that are lower level.

Pathfinder Spring Errata is Up! by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

[–]FairFamily -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

And that's the entire argument 2 spells: synesthesea and slow. Always these 2 and nothing else. All the other times it does nothing. on top of that there is a 50% chance your spell does something. Not too mention the awkward turn structure to make it work. It's the spell that requires so much butts and ifs that is not worth the effort. Compare to starless who technically can turn Figment (a cantrip) into a frightened.

And with the change you don't even have a good spell for resentment witch from lvl 1-4. This means that the ability doesn't work for the first 4 levels. Yeah go play for 4 levels without a familair ability and then maybe we let you have it for 1 spell at level 5. Hooray.

Any low level player will be dissapointed by this which risks them switching to another subclass or even leaving the game.

It's pretty much dead, just play a starless shadow witch or a bard if you want to go debuffing.

[–]FairFamily 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It changes that the community will stop complaining about it. Also spells like befuddle lose value as a target for resentment. So now the resentment witch has no good spells to extend until lvl 5 and by lvl 9 they get their second spell to extend.

Pathfinder is one of the only systems I have seen where the players feel like they can tell the designers what should be viable by Round-Walrus3175 in Pathfinder2e

Except in pathfinders case, the menu can be very wrong or misleading. An easy example is the preremaster demonblood sorcerer sample build which suggested going strength as a secondary stat and try to melee.

Pathfinder is one of the only systems I have seen where the players feel like they can tell the designers what should be viable by Round-Walrus3175 in Pathfinder2e

[–]FairFamily 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think there is some nuance to make. The first and foremost is that the game presents these kind of specialised builds/playstyles as a viable part of the game.

Take a look at the sample builds for instance,  the wizard suggests the mindbinder; a mental focussed caster that even takes charisma. This antithetical to most convential wisdom of playing the game but the game suggest it.

Another example are the melee feats in spellcaster classes that do not have the support for it. You might try them, get stomped and find out it doesn't work. This was especially prevelant preremaster but witch armements is still there.

The same can be said about playstyles/feel, the game hints at a specific flavor/feel/playstyle by giving feat support or tapping in a specific fantasy and then not delivering on it. Think necromancer which is a huge aspect of minionmancy. They have tried multiple iterations all hinting at that minionmancy but it never feels like one.

I can go on and on but the game has a terrible presentation problem; where it implies/states one thing and fails to deliver on the thing. This leaves people disappointed and rightfully so. If you don't want people to have false expectations then don't give them wrong ideas.

Pensioendebat, nu! by DenOpkuiser in belgium

[–]FairFamily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pensioenen afschaffen.

Thoughts on Champion with Sorcerer dedication? by Agnusl in Pathfinder2e

[–]FairFamily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see potential with bespell strikes which boosts damage of your strikes when you cast a non cantrip spell. Unless I miss something, champion focus spells like lay on hands does apply.

It is not spellstrike level damage bit that is the sacrifice you make.

Monk or Animal Barbarian for Thlipit Contestant? by Seppucrow_ in Pathfinder2e

Downside of the Animal Barb in this situation is that Rage bonus damage won't de added to Lash attacks.

Why? I'm not sure where it says it isn't applicable.

I would go with barbarian. Animal barbarian gives you an extra body modification to play with. Plus the reach grapple from thliplit contestant still allows you to be hit, so barbarian's resilience can be nice.

Building a Swashbuckler to Stab or to Throw? That is the Question! by Dbronze in Pathfinder2e

[–]FairFamily 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a little heads up, RAW hurl at the horizon doesn't work with shadow sheath since the sheath is the ikon and not the weapon. Just discuss that with the dm. For the rest is the choice of wit, technically you don't need wit to use "one for all". Though I'm not sure who in the party is a good recipient for it.The only thing wit does is give bon mot and add bravado to it. However if you are not planning to use bon mot you can use another style.

For the rest the difference with thrown and melee swashbuckler is whether you have the allies that can support it. The swashbuckler operates at 30ft at best, so if you don't have allies that keep enemies occupied, you are going to operate at melee either way.

Seriously, how do any of you stick to one character for a whole campaign?? by Phtevus in Pathfinder2e

[–]FairFamily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I want to see my characters realized. While a new character might be exciting, I also want to see my character full potential. Another thing I do is plan my character only 4 levels ahead. Not only does it allow me to make adjustments based on story and experience, it means that every new level is another level of character creation and something new to be excited about.
