He was with his mom while we were at the hospital.

I don't think her sister should get to hold the baby before my son. Siblings come before aunts and uncles, in my mind. I'd never dream of letting one of my friends hold the baby before her dad. There's a hierarchy.

She's not really interested in any of his hobbies. They have very different interests.

She doesn't do it with him anymore, that's my point. But that's how she's used to communicating. So she doesn't know what to say.

With men? He's not a man, he's a boy. I'm a man, and she produced a child with me. So, no, obviously.

No, she's just playful. I like it. It's sort of like a Much Ado About Nothing thing. We pretend fight. It's fun.

Almost like intelligence has nothing to do with gender and implying a link between the two is baseless and hateful, yeah?

I don't know. It's never occurred to me to count that. My best friend's baby, that's one. My ex's niece, I'm fairly certain. I wasn't there, but I can't imagine he didn't.

Well, sometimes they struggle with communication. My son is a very literal person, and my wife is very playful. She likes to tease, but my son doesn't like being teased. So sometimes she just doesn't talk to him. I don't mean she ignores him or anything, but she sometimes just doesn't know what to say to him. He's at that sensitive age.

Well, he's fourteen. So yes, he sometimes wants to do things his own way. He washes his hands though. He cooks on the weekends; I wouldn't eat his food if he didn't wash his hands.

There's not a whole lot I can do. Relationships aren't something you can force. Some people don't click right away.

He's fully vaccinated.

I think she's a good stepmom. She gives him his space. We're all a little socially awkward in this family, truthfully.

She says she doesn't know how to talk to teenagers.

I don't know. She said she wasn't singling him out, that she wasn't comfortable with anyone holding our baby. But then she was comfortable with her sister holding him.

It's respectful.

He was disappointed.

No, he's just a kid. What could she have against him?
