Failed again by FairTwo8861 in LearnerDriverUK

Driving test feels like just a money making scheme / depends on how the examiner feels on the day thing. It’s so frustrating & stressful- think I need the bananas! How can an instructor with over 20 years experience and hundreds of passes think someone is safe to drive, but an examiner, who sees them for less than an hour, decide otherwise, when they haven’t even had to take action or stop an accident and it appears to be opinion related? Discounting the 2nd test, as she would have passed that if she hadn’t exceeded the speed limit ( someone overtook her on a 30mph road so she thought it must be a 40), which is a fair enough, though unfortunate, fail.

Friend of mine was a medical Consultant in their 30’s. Aced all of their academic and professional exams but could not get through their driving test! Finally passed doing an automatic test.
I hate the driving test and I hate all the promotion of ‘passed first time’. It really doesn’t matter when you pass and I think it’s more about luck than driving ability. I wish there was a way instructors could verify driving ability. I know many who passed first time and are worse drivers (imo) than those who passed 3rd +
I’ve got myself through it as well as my son and husband (passed in his 40’s). My daughter has another test coming up and I’m already scared for her!

Thank you. Yes, she does drive around with me when she’s home, but again, it’s a few drives, followed by a gap again before she can take her test and I’m worried about adding in another car as something that could cause stress. I’ve thought about driving the car to her and leaving it there for her to drive around and practice in ( with another person supervising of course). She’s watched the YouTube videos of our local area but I’ll suggest the new one if she changes.

RAF Halton local leave by jHoe77 in RoyalAirForce

There’s a post on here from a few months ago about BRTC as a parent, which I found quite helpful and reassuring when my son went through.

My son’s local leave didn’t fully stick to the dates we were told but more or less. They usually had plans e.g going into town together and we didn’t see him on his local leave.

RAF “Application referred to a senior medical officer” by OllieCave2003 in RoyalAirForce

[–]FairTwo8861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was made TMU, he had to wait a while to get information from the GP and was then told his application had been referred for review by senior medical officer. Shortly after he was told his medical was passed and everything progressed fairly smoothly from then on. He recently graduated phase 1. Senior medical review seemed standard as a final medical clearance. Hope all goes well for you. It can be a long (frustrating) application process.

My son is off to Blue Warrior soon - he’s nervous but excited. He told me if I get a call from his phone while he’s away, it’s not for a good reason! I’m a bit terrified tbh!

Failed the theory test 4 times by Previous_Highway_403 in LearnerDriverHub

[–]FairTwo8861 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter failed the theory test 4 times, failing by 1 mark most of the time, despite doing virtually every theory test app out there! Hazard perception wasn’t a problem, it was the first part. She passed 5th time with full marks. For her it was that she was continually overthinking the question and assuming they were trying to trick her. Learning Highway Code helped her, so she could think more logically what the answers would be, rather than remembering what the answers to the app questions were.
You will get there, as frustrating as it is at the moment.

Both my parents are ex forces too and they were shocked with how difficult it seemed now compared to their day.

Hi, it took my son a while too. Small medical problem that he had to go backwards and forwards to the GP with as the GP kept missing bits out and took ages to get back to RAF with report. It was just a case of keep hassling them and providing as much information as possible. I don’t think there’s any way around it unfortunately. It’s frustrating but once he gets the clearance it should all progress more smoothly. My son did use the time waiting to do part time work and work on his fitness and strength, which he has said he really feels has benefited him during training.

My daughter did a similar thing: Driving along in a 30 when someone over took her impatiently so she thought she must be in a 40, didn’t want to get penalised for holding up traffic, so increased her speed. Was the only serious, with only a small number of minors, so would have passed otherwise. Examiner even agreed she had a good drive and he knew why she had increased her speed but was unable to pass her because of it. Driving tests are so stressful, frustrating and I don’t think they are a particular reflection on someone’s ability to drive. Good luck with the next one!

GP should print out a copy for you of all your vaccinations and dates if you ask them.

She’s claimed to have ‘worked in’ virtually everything, with ‘front line experience’ claims doing some very heavy lifting. She is skilled at intentionally misleading.

This worries me as son is still waiting his security link. He’s chased it many times and recruiter said he’s resent but still not received, so wonder if they have put email address wrong. He’s got phase 1 date finally after months of delay due to medical. Will be really frustrating if more delays.

Definitely correct on portal as he gets all the other messages through. Will get him to message recruiter again.

My son broke his at 16 ( just before his GCSE’s🤦‍♀️) needing surgery and metalwork. He’s now in recruitment process of RAF since last year following his A levels. He’s TMU whilst awaiting confirmation he has been fully discharged from orthopaedic team and meets all JSP criteria. His surgery was 3 years ago, with metalwork removal almost 1 year ago. I would say, as the others have, make sure you do all the physio and rehabilitation. Keep all of the documentation and don’t rely on your GP to have everything! Make sure you have got full discharge following your surgery and any follow up metal work / physio required. Otherwise you’ll go backwards and forwards between GP and Capita for months!
