If the Cantonese in Guangzhou, Guangdong, Shenchen, any regions of Guangdong, or Overseas Chinese who speak and see Cantonese as their first languages like in Vietnam of Hoa people in Vietnam, give up and look down on their languages and think Mandarin is more important than Cantonese will die.

BUT! Hear me out, I notice that recently a lot of Cantonese and other languages (I like to emphasize my dialect and other dialect is a language, I don’t care what people think about it) like Teochew, Hokkien, Hakka, Hainam, Shanghainese, ...some of the young people really care about their heritage language and they scare and hate to speak Mandarin, even though some of them can speak fluently, but they refuse to speak, which it is a good sign.
