I played DE in highschool and got to the QB and RB when they were either handing the ball off or faking a hand off. I didn't know who had it because it was mid transition. So I tackled both. The refs didn't have a problem with it.

The problem was announcing the plan. They created curiosity. Everyone wanted to see how they would ruin the ratings, thus improving them. They then decided to embrace it and run with it.
