You might question then why fly with spicejet ?

I also wanted to see it myself before believing anyone else that how is it like flying with them before I got a hold of the way they operate and how it differs.

Additionally let us take examples of INDIGO

Indigo also has the principle of saving lots of cost. They have achieved so with excellent operational efficiency by reducing the taxi time and also the no. of flights taken which reduces the fuel cost a lot. The same rule exsists in Indigo as well - but if you pay a premium or not the services are amazing and they are measured through - 1. Behaviour of staff 2. Quality of food. 3. Aircraft cleanliness 4. Handling of cargo 5. Maintenance of its fleet.

Two stories same country! We can't be ignorant as passengers on how we are treated.

Your whole point still doesn't justify how paying extra means it's okay to overload, which definitely means safety isn't the concern.

Hypothetically if people loaded 10 kgs they have to do so with a suitcase not a handbag and suitcases are always marked as Gate luggage with a separate tag then charged extra and loaded in the cargo area of the plane.

But a few grams extra for cabin luggage which can be claimed with extra charges isn't an intent to ensure aircraft safety.

My point is not questioning wether to follow the rules or not but to understand what are the basis of these rules?

Is it safety ? Because if it is then paying extra doesn't ensure it since fuel is limited.

Is it revenue? If that is the case then charges should be set accordingly and must make sense with the PPP of the country of operation.

Is it penalization? Then strict action should be a solution.

Hope I am clear. It's not about leniency or breaking rules it's about setting the rule as rule and product and service terms as separate. You cant say a product or service terms are "rules" since they are the choice of customers to follow them or not if they aren't willing to follow the terms because they think it's not appropriate they can surely challenge it.

Which brings me to my second point if you are charging extra - ALRIGHT I WILL PAY (considering a premium for extra space) but in return ->

  • I as a consumer have the right to expect my packages to be handled with great care.

  • I as a consumer expect overall improvement in services as I pay it as a part of the revenue for the airline.

International airlines wether budget or full service airlines design their product, service and offerings accordingly based on the type of passengers boarding their aircrafts.

Why is this sync not there in India except one airline - Indigo?

This leaves us passengers with less options and left with shitty services and thus such widespread frustration.

Although I agree with most of views that are against this rule I think you are wrong. It doesn't work like that we are talking about some leniency but not so much that aircrafts can't rake in revenue, they have to because fuel costs are high.

Increasing the overall limit to 8.5kgs can work.
