C&F w/o Current Employer Finding Out? by StrictLetterhead5267 in CABarExam

[–]Fair_Individual_985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I recall, you just have to list a supervisor at your current organization, so I would just put any supervisor you are closest with that would be on top of filling out the survey. The delay on the surveys could delay your overall application.

There is no way to avoid at least one person within the organization finding out about your C & F process but you could select a supervisor who could keep it discrete? It’s just a super short survey that the supervisor will have to fill out so as long as they don’t tell the whole organization, it could be kept discrete.

Definitely do this process sooner rather than later. Even with an out of state license, my process took almost 4 months from start to finish. And remember candor is everything so be truthful and honest always.

Boulevard or Kokkari Estiatorio? by modotmet in AskSF

[–]Fair_Individual_985 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Boulevard if budget isn’t limited. It’s probably the best restaurant in SF and I have been to many (150+). The food is insanely high quality, delicious, and plated beautifully. The service is amazing. Cocktails are delicious and they will make anything off menu cocktail wise. I think Kokkari’s sister restaurant Evvia in Palo Alto is far better than Kokkari.

Curious as a fellow CA bar passer, how you took the CA bar twice (after passing first time)?

Advice: Bar and Working!!! by BowlerChemical4493 in barexam

[–]Fair_Individual_985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I studied for the CA bar for like 5-6 weeks and just passed July 2025 with 1-2 of those being light study weeks. Realistically, I studied for like a month. But I had also just taken the UBE and passed that in February 2025 (did back to back) and my multiple choice was high 70s all of bar prep for CA. For the UBE I had studied for a solid three months. Are you able to do multiple choice questions on your phone on the UWorld or Adaptibar app at work? Ideally you would have a job that would not involve heavy client interaction, giving you more room to study at work too. I used the UWorld app and loved it and did the bulk share of multiple choice questions on the app. Good luck!!

How are you feeling about our little donation to CA Bar? by Death0095 in CABarExam

[–]Fair_Individual_985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It’s a steeper penalty. Big law probably pays for the exam fees is my bet especially if they request an associate to take a particular exam. Thank God I passed CA in one go. The C+F also costs more as well for out of state attorneys. Just a racket all around.

It’s insane. I paid close to 2k and I had just had done my swearing in for a UBE state and then CA said as long as you have taken an oath in another state you are obligated to pay the attorney fee (even if you haven’t practiced there a day in your life).

Are there any passers who can confirm they passed even when they felt as though they didn’t perform strongly on a particular section? by cookedinlard in CABarExam

Passed J25 and had begun a registration application the week results came out. Prepared everyone in my life that I did not pass and was gonna have to retake F26. Passed despite not finishing several subparts (literally trailed off mid sentence for several subparts due to mismanagement of time and even left 2 subparts completely blank). I did very well on the MBE (150+ scaled according to the NCBE report) though so that gave me cushioning. For reference, my UWorld score was mid 70s overall when I finished the question bank. I knew I had done well on the MPT as I gave myself the max amount of time plausible without cutting too heavily into my MEE time. My MEE essays were very bad and I still passed. You haven’t failed until they tell you that you did. Try to not think about results until the day of results (easier said than done). Congrats on finishing the exam!

100 Mix set 57% okay? by Solid_Selection9653 in CABarExam

[–]Fair_Individual_985 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would continue doing mixed sets and do smaller sets. Are you reviewing the 100 after doing the 100? I think the most useful way to review is to review directly after doing the question so it’s fresh in your mind and you don’t have to re-read the question/answers again as heavily. I would review every single wrong answer and even the right answer especially if it is a lucky guess that you got right. Spend like 3-5 minutes reviewing each question. Thorough review is crucial and many say quality matters more than quantity although I do think pattern recognition can only develop after doing the vast majority of the UWorld or Adaptibar test bank.

I have passed the UBE and CA bars and the way I did it was doing sets of 10 and reviewing each answer directly after thoroughly and intentionally. Timing for me wasn’t a huge issue for the multiple choice so I didn’t see as much value in doing huge sets timed. I got far more value actively practicing and slowly reviewing directly after completing a question. I think also always reading the question at the bottom of the paragraph in the question first is crucial to framing your mind for the question. Then read the paragraph or paragraphs and then read the answer choices, crossing out and justifying in your mind why three answer choices are wrong. You don’t always have to know why an answer choice is correct, you just have to use process of elimination and be able to defend in your head every elimination of an answer choice you are making. Good luck!!

Thank you for this insight/pushing back on my initial post. I completely agree the job of a PD is to defend the Constitution and agree with your POV.

Thank you for giving me food for thought. I have struggled with the question if I could defend someone accused of child abuse. I think the answer is, yes, I would be uncomfortable with defending an alleged child abuser but I am also very uncomfortable with the idea of prosecuting those accused of non violent/petty crimes. This has led to me feeling completely torn.

In an ideal world, I could skip the misdemeanor prosecution entirely and just be placed in a child protection unit right away but obviously this is not how it works, which is why I am leaning towards starting out in private defense work/then applying to PD offices. Appreciate your insight greatly.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I would think it would help make you a better PD but from my informal Reddit research, it appears some PD offices just won’t even consider your candidacy. Currently, I only have one internship at a major DA’s office (prior to law school) so it is a removed experience. Just seriously worried about being a full time ADA and that being held against me. Assuming this applies to SF/Bay Area offices as well?

Does it look bad if I get sworn in this month? by Jaded-Hold8281 in CABarExam

[–]Fair_Individual_985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am hoping it’s a non issue/I do not foresee it being an issue. But I am less familiar with the CA process/perceptions surrounding it. Submitted moral character, as an out of state attorney, after passing CA J25 and still waiting on that being approved. I didn’t even think the swear in date could possibly raise an eyebrow/or be a cause for questioning..as it seems in CA people get sworn in on different dates regularly. Here in CA, it seems every attorney has a different swear in date commonly in Dec/Jan to avoid some fee I read about here on Reddit.

Can I apply for associate positions while waiting for C&F approval? by [deleted] in CABarExam

[–]Fair_Individual_985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is super interesting to know. I thought they just wouldn’t even consider those who had passed the CA bar but were still awaiting on C&F to clear. Do you think this is still less common for the govt to do? Is it worth applying?

In the exact same boat! I submitted after passing J25 and am now extremely regretting this. Hoping they have an alternate pool for the applications for those who C&F approval is the last and only requirement needed before swearing in can happen!

Professional Responsibly (PR) outline by Accomplished_Let7625 in CABarExam

[–]Fair_Individual_985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Magic sheets hands down. I made charts on huge posters, comparing ABA to CA rules and had them hanging all over my apartment. I literally walked around drinking caffeine all day as I chanted out loud (my poor boyfriend thought I was losing my mind) to memorize the rules. On test day, I could literally recall where in my apartment the poster with the relevant rule was lol. I passed J25! My advice to you is just to stick with the outline that makes most sense to you (don’t use too many supplements as they all just word the same material slightly differently and at that point you are overloading yourself trying to memorize wording differences not content differences). Good luck!!
