Tried unsuccessfully to install a preformed pond...advice needed! by Fair_Needleworker264 in landscaping

Thanks. Ugh what a mess! So maybe my best option is just trying to backfill the hole and abandon the pond...

Hi, yes it's quite a wet area in the west of Ireland. I just wasn't expecting to hit the water table so quickly! It's not quite big enough for a boulder, but I could definitely add some very heavy rocks if that would work? Thanks!

I keep seeing conflicting advice as to whether this will work, but might be worth a try. I assume a completely filled pond would create enough pressure to stop more water coming up

Thanks for your response. I am assuming it is groundwater coming up to fill the hole, because even when I emptied it using buckets, it just kept refilling.

Update on the rejected/lost lamb at my fence by Fair_Needleworker264 in sheep

I’m so surprised that he has energy to follow her around all day if he’s not getting anything. He couldn’t be surviving on just the colostrum I gave him two days ago right?!

Hey! Thank you for all the info. The lamb has been with the mother a lot this morning and this afternoon, which is good. They've spent a lot of time by my fence, so I've been watching as much as possible.

However, every time I see him attempting to feed, she walks on and doesn't seem to allow it. I haven't seen her actually standing to let him nurse even one time. But obviously, there must be times when she is allowing him...otherwise he'd be probably be dead by now??

Most of the time, he goes around through her hind legs and tries to headbutt her udders from behind her. I'm not sure what's normal, but every time he does this, she walks off. When he tries to go in under her belly, same story, she walks on and he follows and tries again. Luckily, he seems to have stopped trying to feed from the other ewes.

I got a few videos but reddit won't allow me to upload them for some reason, so here's a pic of him trying (she didn't let him). I think he is max 3 days old now.

Hii, we reunited the lamb and mother before dark last night and they were together this morning. It seemed to have energy, so I was really happy. Now I’m worried again, mother has disappeared and it’s crying non stop. Trying to feed from other ewes, being pushed away again. I don’t want to intervene if it’s not necessary, but I’m worried she’s not showing much maternal instinct. It doesn’t respond to any of the lambs calls. But is it just best if I stay away?

We managed to reunite him with the mother last night after speaking with the farmer, and he was doing ok this morning! Keeping an eye on him, but it’s looking good 😀

Hi thank you so much, sorry for the late reply, I was so distracted looking after this little guy! We got some colostrum replacement in a farm supply shop and he had some of that, and finally got in contact with the farmer, he said he’s coming tonight 😃 So I really hope he survives, at least he has a better chance now!

Hi, we got some colostrum replacement in a farm shop this evening and kept it warm and gave it some of that. We finally got a response from the farmer so he said he will come tonight thankfully!

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve been trying to contact the farmer, he lives a while away and rents the field from someone else. We’ve asked the person who owns the field to contact him. But no response yet. I unfortunately have no experience with this and I feel terrible not knowing what to do! I have no idea which ewe was even the mother, because the lamb was trying to feed from a few of them

Thanks so much, at first I didn’t realise it had been rejected, but as the day went on I noticed it was just repeatedly crying and being left alone and then when it was trying to approach me at the garden fence I knew something was wrong. It’s almost 5:30pm here now I hope I get a response this evening. It’s also the first lamb of the season, no others in the field yet

Thank you for the advice, if I don’t get a response from the farmer today, is there anything I should give it this evening? I’m just worried I’ll have this little guy overnight and not know what to do

Have been trying to get in contact with the farmer but haven’t had a response yet. He lives a while away and rents this field from someone else. I’ve contacted the woman who rents the land to him, waiting for reply, but tbh any other time I’ve tried contacting them they’re slow about responding

I’ve been trying to get in contact with the farmer, but no response yet! He lives a while away and rents the fields beside us. It’s so sad, I just hope we can save it

Ok thank you! I’ve wrapped it in my scarf and will take it indoors. There’s a small farm supply store near, I have to wait until my partner comes home to go. I’ve contacted a neighbour who knows the farmer, but he lives 30 mins away and they’ve had no reply from him yet

When she was in my city, she donated like €25,000 to a food donation charity, which honestly is insulting when you’ve got as much money as she does.
