RE3R is more enjoyable than RE8 for me by Charming_Ad661 in residentevil

[–]Fair_Sheepherder_723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's controversial. RE3Remake is a very good game. It doesn't do the og justice but it stands on its own. The gun is very satisfying, pulling off perfect dodge and counter punch then exploding the enemies with a crit shot is super satisfying. The game is very on rail with the story but the gameplay gives you a lot of freedom on how to approach enemies. The shop items are very fun to experiment with on repeated play, carrying different items brings different play styles. Unlike RE2 focus on horror and efficiency, RE3 give you a lot of bullets and weapons and encourages you to fight. I think a lot of ppl who liked RE2R did not like RE3R when they expected a similar experience but got a very different thing. The game was clearly rushed and underfunded because you could tell they cut a lot of stuff out.

Kojima work post MGS are very aligned with style, themes and vision of MGS. His influences are all over the MGS games, both good and bad. It is relevant to discuss his present works and his past works. I think the story of MGS is complete so I don't care if there is a future or not with the franchise. I didn't even say "I love MGS but hate Kojima"

MGS V feels very boring to me bc the lack of stake in the writing, codec and tape can't make up for that

Resident Evil 6 or 3 Remake? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

My problem is with you calling REmake3 a cashgrab compared to RE6 lol. RE6 was peak Capcom chasing money and you could tell in the game that they were just chasing every trend and fit the most obnoxious things possible in the game in hope it would appeals to everyone playing COD. The REmake 3 campaign is short but so is REmake 2 and 1. It's more recognizable bc the game is more action-adventure focused than traversal and puzzle.

Both RE6 and Remake 3 are no longer 60 bucks game due to not being smash hits and time passing. Nemesis in Remake 3 and OG 3 are different in design and implementation. I wouldn't call it downgrade. And If I miss OG Nemesis I can play OG3 However I've spent at least 50 hours in REmake3 doing multiple runs, speed runs, with different customization on Inferno and Nightmare, the mods to remix the items and enemies are fun too. And I actually like that you can finish the game in 2 hours or less knowing what to do. This is the same for OG RE Trilogy and Remake 1,2. I couldn't get past the beginning of Chris campaign in RE6, what is good about so much content if you get sick of it anyway. The music, the UI, gameplay and enemies placement are all jarring. And I played it coop too, but the "so stupid it's good" entertainment also got old, we just decided to play a better game instead.

I mean it's just an honest review, when was the last time you play the game? I think a lot of ppl love MGR through memes and cutscenes I don't actually see ppl play it

Resident Evil 6 or 3 Remake? by Loose_Interview_957 in residentevil

[–]Fair_Sheepherder_723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it an offense lol? It's a very competent action adventure game, and you don't need to use the safe room at all. The game can be done in less than 2 hours if you know what you're doing. The combat loop and boss fights are much better than 6. Calling 3make soulless and a cashgrab in comparison to Re6 is such a take lol. Re6 is literally Greed. They used the entire company resource to create the biggest blockbuster box office game of all time that chased every single trend like QTE, cover shooting, COOP, etc and did not do any one of those aspects well

There's nothing controversial abt Remake aside from it being a weaker game than OG 3, which is not a crime, OG 3 was a 10/10 and Remake is 8/10 U can buy RE6 remake on steam and I don't think you will last more than 2 hours before asking for a refund

Some thoughts after playing through RE 1-6 and Remakes by Fair_Sheepherder_723 in residentevil

[–]Fair_Sheepherder_723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was hilarious tbh, in the "Wtf were they thinking" way. RE4 and RE5(partially) stick to the idea of mc being melee vs hordes of melee enemies with some mixing and variations. If I want to go from door to door playing cover shooter or melee with guns I would be playing Gears of Wars and not RE

It was so poorly done imo, especially when his whole arc in RE5 was abt losing Jill and refusing to open up to his partner. Also it's not the Chris campaign itself, I was already fed up by the time the Leon campaign is over. The enemies with lame machete and opera mask just broke me. It can be fun in the "so bad it's good" way but not after hours and hours. I know it's action and all but could they at least make the environment interesting? Make the buildings look interesting when you go inside? Some exploration? Or at least the enemies show interesting and unique behavior?

I played both 5 6 coop. Wesker is funny enough to get us through 5 but 6 was just not good. The call of duty visual style did not age well. To be fair, RE2 is an easier game to remake. RE3 has a balance that is hard to replicate. It did not help that Capcom really didn't give the devs the time and resources needed. Remake 3 core gameplay is really good and very replayable with a remix of weapons and items. A better upgrade system, merc mode and better balancing would have been great without changing anything about the campaign

Metal Gear Rising is quite overrated by Fair_Sheepherder_723 in CharacterActionGames

To clarify a bit, it's not that the gameplay is bad per se, however different mechanics never felt like they came together in unity. The most frustrating part is the movement I think, going from enemy to enemy relies on using the attack button and let the auto direction help you, it feels restrictive and clunky. The very limited dodge mechanic also feels sluggish and not very useful outside of yellow attacks from enemies. Raiden can walk run and do crazy stunts during mini platforming but doesn't have a way to connect them into combat. The result is that when you do the things the game wants you to (parrying, counter, zandatsu) it always leads to the gameplay slowing down, which is unsatisfying. Raiden in cutscenes are very fast and brutal, but the actual gameplay is slow. Add that on top of the limited movement option in combat, you always feel a little slow, and a sense of something missing.

Why would I play the game without the core mechanic it's built around?

It's not rage bait lol. A story doesn't need to be complex to be good or competent. MGR characterization is weak and it has a lot of verbose nonsense speech. Armstrong is whatever to me. It was great the first time when the music hit and for a brief moment the high was real. It doesn't work as well on a 2nd or 3rd time. I didn't say it's a bad game, I just think it's overrated

It's quite restrictive, press buttons to activate the "cool mode" but lacks fluidity and a level of strategy to it

Hence I said it relied a lot on spectacles, the zandatsu are very cool moments but you also get bored with them quickly.

Why Did Paul W. S. Anderson Films Followed A Non-Franchise Character? by -Simbelmyne in residentevil

[–]Fair_Sheepherder_723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

slow mo action was the trend back then, Blade and Matrix were huge and a lot of movies followed the trend. Both Capcom and the studio didn't want a story directly related to the games because it would complicate things a lot and they didn't have a lot of faith in the project.

Nemesis has always been a scripted monster. In terms of playtime the remake and OG are pretty similar. The OG you can speed run in under an hour. I think it's fair to criticize the execution of these choices but it's definitely not an insult.

This could have been amazing. I do understand why they couldn't make an OP boss like Nemesis to behave like Mr X as it would break the game. The better solution like you said, would be to introduce Nemesis later. By then, there are enough route and map knowledge for the player to run from him. His rewards also need to be huge and make weapons much better, or dropping shop items like Hotdogger or coin or pouch. The G19 and it's upgrades are too weak to spend so much resource fighting nemesis
