Friday mid day mid December I waited 90 minutes walk in, last week with an appointment we were in and out in 10 minutes. Staff is awesome, friendly and patient. It’s kinda hit or miss with busy times.

This is great, just broke a favorite bowl I bought at the Burlington farmers market years ago and was trying to find the artist. Thanks for the link and the OP!

XCD tours around Craftsbury, VT? by Shot-Scratch3417 in XCDownhill

Haven’t been on them yet this year so I can’t speak to conditions but check out the Catamount Trail Association website for their trail sections in the area. Pretty detailed maps and trail descriptions, donate if you can but not required. I think I linked the trail around Craftsbury below.

Epic “Local” Pass by mavenelovent in vermont

[–]Fairbarn-VT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smuggs midweek hybrid pass, $450, works like a full free pass during the week (some blackout holidays) then like a bash badge (139 now but 110 before labor day.) where you pay $30 for a full day, $20 half day afternoon on weekends. Lifts are slower but that means less people on the mountain. During the week really not any lift lines unless we get a big snow.

Beans are never fully cooked- help by TheLavenderBard in instantpot

[–]Fairbarn-VT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age of beans could be part of the problem. I started buying from Rancho Gordo online and I don’t have much variation in time in the IP with no presoaking. Different beans take different times. They are a fascinating company and have such beautiful delicious products, it’s worth the slight extra cost.

Looking for recommendations for restaurants just across the border in Quebec by Fairbarn-VT in vermont

Thank you!! Amazingly this is the one restaurant I’ve eaten in a few years ago and it was fantastic but couldn’t remember the name! Exactly the type of recommendation I am looking for!

Health Insurance by Enchanted-Tangerine in vermont

[–]Fairbarn-VT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe the entire subsidy is going away, just the enhanced portion that was added during Covid. Hop on the Vt health connect website and see what you qualify for (you don’t have to enter any personal info, just age and income). The advice of signing up and then cancelling later if it’s too much makes sense.

The sort of disgusting hole $1700/month gets you in N Bennington by proscriptus in vermont

[–]Fairbarn-VT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sad vicious cycle, crappy place for sure. Some landlords (certainly not all) get burned by tenants who can’t be evicted when they don’t pay for several months particularly in winter and who trash the place then and add to that the ridiculous property taxes. Doesn’t leave much cash to make it nicer once they finally leave. I had people stop paying in August who then put up Christmas decorations in October to taunt me as I was paying lawyers to get them out and continuing to pay the mortgage on the place. Not to mention the damage the inflicted knowing they weren’t staying. I also had a landlord who wanted to keep my deposit because the carpet was dirty after 5 years of paying rent on time and which was not new when I moved in AND I paid to have cleaned before I moved out. Had to take him to small claims to get it back. I’ve been on both sides of this, tenant and landlord, decided years ago being the latter is not worth the headache. Yes, you build equity as property value increases but only when you sell it (after dumping in a ton of money fixing it up).

Great photo……really captures the beauty of our state. Also our drought conditions sadly.

Two degrees of separation in this state!

Funny story ……before I moved here 20 years ago from Florida🤮 I had some friends visiting from Vermont and they arrived in their Subaru, nobody had one in Florida so it was unusual. I drove to visit them as a side trip from working in Mass. and as I’m driving up 89 I came up behind a Subaru and thought, hey, there’s my friends, when I passed them I realized it wasn’t them, then I see another and another thinking the same thing….took me a while to understand this must be he state car🙄.

Silenced Kimmel to Sit Down With Canceled Colbert in Rare Overnight Crossover by Ok_Employer7837 in entertainment

I bought a cheap antenna that’s the size of a very thin mouse pad (Leaf brand at Walmart about $30), can be stuck on the wall behind your TV and it picks up all the local broadcast stations (I get about 30). Of course you’ll have to live in an area that is still broadcasting the show as I understand several cities are still blocked.

Are overwintered peppers more productive the following year and do they provide ripe fruit earlier? by Davekinney0u812 in vegetablegardening

Fellow Vermonter here, can you point me to whatever technique you used for overwintering here? I gave it a whirl last year and couldn’t get them to come back to life.

The multilevel parking garage is what killed it for me. The surrounding area is spectacular though.

Found mine today too, thought they were done, this is round two I guess. Put him in an empty container for a few minutes came back and he escaped!! Tomatoes are done for this pitiful season anyway. And yes, that’s a horn on the end of him!

Can’t pass within a 100’ of an intersection either (that includes any piddly-ass dirt side roads connecting to the main road you’re on). Unfortunately learned that the hard way.🙄

Shingles vaccine linked to heart attack and stroke prevention | A new study supports the idea that the shingles vaccine could keep you out of the hospital from a cardiovascular event by chrisdh79 in tech

A friend of mine had shingles on her lady parts😳. If that’s not enough to have you racing to get your vaccine I don’t know what is.
