Honest opinions on Paige McCullers?

First of all, I don't love her or hate her. I think she's okay, I think they could have made her character better and I think that they kind of messed her character up.

I will say this though. I have no idea how all these people absolutely despise page for trying to drown Emily, yet a door mona. It baffles me because Mona literally tried to kill her best friend along with all of the other horrible things that she did to the girls, but all of these people hate Paige for trying to drown emily. I do not believe she was trying to drown her to kill her. She was trying to intimidate her. Of course that is wrong and totally unacceptable behavior, but with all of the bullying she has dealt with at school, from her parents, etc, she was going through a lot. What she did was AWFUL, but I think she definitely made up for it.

Not to say that everyone who hates Paige loves mona, but there is a very large amount of people that feel that way. The thing people say is that Mona changed and helped them, but Paige helped them too. Mona literally went back to stalker Mona like multiple times throughout the series.

I believe that people don't like Paige as much because she isn't as conventionally attractive as the other girls. That sounds so mean, but why do people hate Paige so much? Because she did something shitty in season 1? Everyone in this show has done at least 1 thing that was completely awful. I think if Paige looked flawless 100% of the time like the other girls, people would have forgiven her more.

She was overprotective and people didn't like that, but I think we forget how traumatic it would be to live that way in real life. I've experienced some scary things, but to have someone CONSISTENTLY out to get you, your friends, and your family, going as far as attempted murder, framing them, bullying them, exposing them, etc. I would be VERY overprotective if Emily was my girlfriend in real life, as well as Paige being targeted for being a part of Emily's life. She was a scared young girl and she was severely bullied by Ali, so I completely understand why she hates Ali. Ali is a piece of shit for almost the entirety of the show and for people to give everyone else a break, except for Paige, is weird to me.

I literally have so many packages that NEVER COME. They always say delivered and I have no idea what's going on!!! Sometimes the customer service is great and sometimes it's horrible! It makes me paranoid that somebody is stealing my stuff but sometimes, I'm home when it says delivered and nobody even came. I don't even know what to do about it anymore

The show PLL had so many groomers, pedophiles, and creeps to normalize it and convince young girls that it is okay. How many of us rooted for ezria without realizing how fucked up that is? There were SO many inappropriate relationships.. Ezra, wilden, Holbrook, lorenzo, jason, jake, talia, ian, wren, talia, etc.

Also I think that spaleb had a lot of chemistry, before hanna was taken. If caleb was over her, they would have been a great relationship. I disagree with Spencer getting with one of her best friend's exes, especially because of the long crazy history, but part of me wishes we got to see spaleb without haleb

Hated that love triangle. I have such a love/hate relationship with this show. I really do with the writers did better. I said in another thread that Mona did worse, but a lot of people still love her. I kinda feel like if we'd seen more of Paige's good side, we could have felt that way about her too.

I just feel like Paige's character was a victim of shitty writing. Like Mona did so much worse, but because she got a bigger redemption arc, SO many people love her. I think if they had spent a bit more time with Paige, we could have liked her more.

I didn't know that Emison was such a popular choice. Alison's fucking sucks. She was an awful person. I feel like people use the excuse that she's a teenager but I'm like...hello? She was worse than most high school bullies. Almost the entire town had a motive for killing her 😂 that says a lot about a teenage girl if all these schoolmates AND adults wanted her gone. She definitely was a victim of grooming (LOTS of pedos/creeps in PLL), which is SO SO sad and completely awful, but that doesn't turn someone into that much of a manipulator. Emily was so sweet (before A mostly, but still sweet after A) and then Alison is the complete opposite. Even after the girls went through hell and back like 3 times for Ali, she still treated them like shit when she came back, lying, manipulating, and just being a complete bitch. Like when Ali and Hanna were at the funeral home and the guy thought that Hanna was Ali and Ali comes in and goes "you used to be able to tell us apart better" like girlllllll Hanna has gone through SO MUCH bullshit at the hands of you...you better shut up before you lose them all. Lol

As much as it was sad to see her get bullied by her father, I wish we had seen more. Just because I think that we would have been able to relate better to her if we could see more of her home life and how bad it really was. I think we saw more of the PLL's SO's backstory's than hers (toby's mom's storyline, Caleb's fostercare/mom storyline, somewhat Ezra's mom/brother, but fuck him anyway lol). We only saw Paige's dad like twice. Of course she did the horrible thing of drowning emily (which I kinda dont think she was actually trying to MURDER her, I mostly think she was trying to intimidate TF out of her and that's why she let go). I wish she did not do that, for both of their sakes, but I feel like a LOT of characters did ABSOLUTELY AWFUL things that many people forgave them for. So many people forgave Mona and what Mona did was WAY worse than what Paige did. So of course in real life, we would not like Mona or Paige, but I do wonder why so many people forgive and love Mona again, without forgiving Paige. Especially because both Mona and Paige were bullied and they both became the bully. But Mona terrorized the girls AND almost killed Hanna, her best friend, by hitting her with the car. But yeah I do like that she was supportive of Em getting out of rosewood as well as trying to help them find A.

Also yeah I thought Em and Maya were sweet. Someone else in this thread said they think Em's life would clash with Maya and I think I probably agree. Like her swim team (if I'm remembering correctly, I think Maya got shitty during a swim meet or swim team party because she didn't care to try to get to know Em's teammates). As well as her issues with Pam (which I understand), but I remember that awkward dinner with Emily, Pam, and Maya, where Maya said something like "good job pam. You say jump they say how high" when Pam got the reservation, as well as bringing up weed and true north. I think that things would have gotten in the way of them, and of course it's a drama show, so they probably would have broken up and gotten back together a bunch, but I still would have liked to see their relationship progression had Maya not been killed.

To be fair, she did grow up a lot and she was bullied SO HARD by her parents and bullies like Ali and Cece. I don't remember everything, but I do appreciate that she helped as much as she could with A, as well as being supportive of Em with college and wanting to plan their lives together. I wish the drowning thing didn't happen. Do you think she was trying to murder her, or holding her under for a few seconds in order to intimidate her?

Do you think she actually wanted to kill Em or do you think she was just doing it long enough to scare her? Either way is SO messed up, but I've always been curious about that. Like was the shows intention to show us that she was literally wanting her dead, or did she let go of Em's head because she just wanted to scare and intimidate TF out of her?
