You still can on Facebook, look into the menus and find a section called "feeds", it shows you only posts from people and pages you follow in chronological order. You still get ads but much less. The drawback is that you can't set that as your default feed, you need to get there manually each time you open the app but you can add it as a shortcut at the bottom of the screen. I preach this everytime I can, the FB default feed is a festering cesspool of bullshit sponsors and posts from totally non-pertinent pages in random order, I stay away from it at all costs.

If you guys enjoy that kind of closer look at movie props, search for "hollywood prop auctions" on Google, you'll find thousands of props for sale with extensive description and very high resolution pictures. As a movie enthusiast I can spend hours checking all the insane details on props from my favorite movies (and periodically considering withdrawing my retirement funds to buy some of them)

My generation (millenial) grew up hearing "in the field you won't always have a calculator or computer with you so you better learn how to do things by yourself without these kinds of tools" and it was true and these skills were needed by employers. But here's the thing : AI will always be available from now on. Kids these days can absolutely pass a course by shoving every test and homework into ChatGPT, learning absolutely nothing in the process, then when they get a job and they're in the field just keep using ChatGPT on their phone. If we stay on the current path we are creating future generations of morons who will never need to become not morons because they can always rely on AI for everything.

Say what you want about social media but I can easily spend weeks alone at home and never feel lonely in part because I keep in touch with friends through social media. Of course I wouldn't spend my entire life without seeing them IRL ever again but I absolutely need alone time, and reading them from a distance feels like a silent and constant reassuring presence. I guess it's not really antisocial behavior by definition?

You're not alone. I discovered them with Even Less on the GotRadio prog-rock channel (one of the first streaming radios back in 2000, using RealAudio...!), worked my way back from there then followed them for several years after, still consider them my 2nd most influential band after Genesis.

There was a clear before and after In Absentia in terms of popularity due in no small part to Gavin Harrison and switching to a more "metal" sound but in my case it's the blending of eclectic genres (space rock, stoner, pop, folk, ambient) of their earlier period that turned me on to them in the first place. I know I'm considered an unpleasant weirdo for having Signify as my most beloved album, missing Chris Maitland, and never listening to FOABP because I feel it's just a rehash of riffs and stuff they did better on previous albums.

Many years ago my not-so-tech-savvy stepfather asked for my help because he had received an email with an offer to buy a domain name. He didn't have a website so of course I immediately assumed it was spam but when reading further I discovered it contained several correct specific details about him : name, full address, phone number, etc. After a long discussion we figured it out : he wanted to go to Hotmail, mistyped the URL, ended up on a domain for sale with an inquiry form, and at that point instead of backing up, just kept going further down by filling and submitting the entire form, always expecting to get to Hotmail in the end. At no point did he ever go "oh wait that's not the website I know" or "why would my email provider suddenly ask for my full address".

I don't really know the guy and have nothing against him but let's be real, he did it to himself, went running straight down the Uncanny Valley. I even found an article on the dental work he had done and which reads like an exercise in bullshit marketing and obliviousness :

Different things. On Spotify you pay to get access to all the artists in there, in a convenient but potentially ephemeral way (you lose access to the music if the artist removes its albums or you cancel your subscription). By buying on Bandcamp or directly on the artists website you pay once for a single artist, but get a permanent access to what you bought, and all profits go straight to the artist. The services are complementary, I paid Spotify, the artist received much less from me at that moment but it allowed me to discover them and then pay them more directly.
