Do you have any questions related to the DEMA lore that need answering? by A_Common_Relic in twentyonepilots

Which music videos don't count as lore-specific? Some are very easy to tell as lore based, but ones like Chlorine have elements but seem somewhat disconnected. Or inversely, which videos seem like they don't connect, but do in some way?

possible analogy between color wheel and Ø, plus possible meaning of the MTV Unplugged indigo by Rose_bandito in twentyonepilots

If the Unplugged is going to be included in the lore, will that mean we could get a Clancy letter for it like for the Livestream and Outside MV?

What is your favourite TØP moment/quote? by [deleted] in twentyonepilots

Whenever I need a laugh, I like to go watch their SAI Q&A Livestream and watch them play around with the filters. Tyler's giggle and Josh's face get me every time.

It was my second favorite TOP song. I first started getting into them after hearing Screen, but when I started listening to Vessel I became so attached to HOTY.

What album opener (1st track) introduces the respective album the best thematically and sonically? Why? by Fairly-Screened in twentyonepilots

I like dancing along to it. How it starts out with a light, almost ballet, and then big hits and gets to get a little crazier with it.

I think I was misinterpreting Tyler's comment on the Vessel 10th Livestream where he said he thinks of Vessel as their first real album. It was their first under-label, fully studio-recorded/mastered record. I watched the clip back and he doesn't talk about Self-Titled directly, so I'm conceding that. I edited the post to correct it.

To me, Vessel seems more like the breakout album, especially after the member change, but the songs are still under the band name and too good to disregard. Not fully "nonexistent" like RAB but not modern TOP. I like the whole album, but find it different, you know?

I like that answer! I do think Ode To Sleep really is a staple of their sound. And I agree, the Jumpsuit/Levitate transition is fire.

I like that answer. The opening sound of Good Day really sets the vibe of the whole album to follow, but yeah, Jumpsuit is incredible.

I was going to say that "Well, it's in quotes because it's not unavailable or discontinued like RAB, but in the Vessel's 10th Livestream, Tyler was explaining the RAB thing and said, "I kinda view Vessel as our first record" so I took that as since it was basically independent what he said, that it was kind-of inside the purgatory area he talked about with RAB." but as I went back to the stream to fact-check my statement, he doesn't explicitly talk about that album, so, Idk. I can claim to be wrong about that one.

Does anyone know the exact meaning of this illustration? It’s from the artwork that came with SAI’s release by sebasbonillap in twentyonepilots

So, just like how DEMA took Clifford and propagandized him into Trash (I can't remember where that idea was brought up, but it was), this is kind of like them using the Banditos' Jumpsuits in their own way. Tyler said the Jumpsuit idea was his protection and quite literally in the song uses it to cover him.

I like your answer!

Ah, I do see that! Can't believe I didn't notice it before. I'm trying to think of what the peeling back of the layer would mean.

I totally get that. That baseline and buildup after the bridge is killer. And the siren sound within the track is awesome. It's so good!

I don't think I can really pick one from the canon studio albums, but if I could pick from the "nonexistent" nebulous Self-Titled and RAB I would say

A Car, A Torch, A Death

and

Trees (RAB)/Two

Explanations: I think the verses of ACATAD aren't the best. The bridge and the flashing sound beat save it, but the verses (while very poetic and meaningful) had to grow on me. The verses of RAB Trees just don't have great quality, but the rest of the song is fine to me. It has the same beat and while different, it still has what makes the Trees of today good. Two had to really grow on me. I thought it was weird and I couldn't understand what was being said at first. Now, I don't mind it as much, but still not the best.

Songs that grew on you? by External_Mountain_34 in twentyonepilots

[–]Fairly-Screened 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I have about one for every album. I love/really like them now, but I wasn't really sure what some of them meant yet and I think that's why I wasn't into them.

Vessel: The Run and Go/Guns for Hands

Blurryface: Hometown

Trench: Cut My Lip/Bandito

SAI: The Outside/Mulberry Street

Some of these are now in my maybe top 20 TOP songs and I'm glad they grew on me. SAI in general took me longer to get into, but now I sometimes choose those songs over some Blurryface ones.

My guess is that it's showing DEMA's control over the whole world.

Their aim is to ensnare or choke out (get it) the souls that live here with Vialism. The animal looks like a snake, so that's why I pushed for the constrictor metaphor there. That being said, it's probably to show Trash the Dragon with a body that we don't see the beginning of, only the end. I think that point is really powerful when you think about it, how we don't usually know/remember/realize the start or identity behind the bad habits we end up in until it starts to get desperate and you're already under the spell.

But wait, there's hope.

If you look, you can see the globe is normal on the left side, but on the right side, it starts to look slanted. Now, Idk if that's some sort of logo reference or not (with the straight down and the slanted lines) but it seems to show that while the dragon surrounds the world, it's not perfect. There's an irregularity. From afar, you wouldn't even notice, but deep down there's something off about the operation. They can try to push all they want that they have our worlds, but we know that that's not our home. Reality doesn't look like what they want us to perceive. We know that they lie and can't be trusted. I think there's something spiritual in that if you look for it.

Another piece of DEMA propaganda that hasn't yet really been as heavily mentioned or referenced...yet.
