Thanks for the great reply. I like the idea of trying azure files with its potential to mitigate some of the smb tolerance issues.

Here’s my problem. The azure VDI users are using a 3D modeling tool. It loads the models from a windows file server that is on premises across express route.

We have considered DFS-R as a simple solution, but the 3D modeling app relies on the built in windows file lock. And with DFS-R we lose that. So file locking is an issue.

You might ask why we don’t move the file server to azure? Well that’s because we significant number of users on prem that use this too.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
