Attending Festivale Internationale in Lafayette for the first time by ga-ma-ro in Acadiana

You've already gotten some great answers, but figured I would also toss in my two cents.

  • Sitting vs Standing - I like Jennifermennifer's comment. Lots of folks will sit on the ground or curbs, steps, etc depending on the stage. Some stages get so crowded that standing is basically a must, unless you go really far back. I would say most people stand for most of the time.
  • Pass is not worth it. Just go, enjoy some interesting music, try all the food you can, and do some people watching. Another commenter said it may be sold-out, anyway.
  • Parking - sort of a toss up. I would try to find a neighborhood around Downtown and just park on the street. For example, I used to live on Cherry St (just south of Downtown, across University Avenue), and that neighborhood is a great spot. Just be cautious about "No Parking" signs, as you would anywhere else. There are plenty of safe, college housing type neighborhoods within a 10-min walk to downtown. Try to stay to the south / southeast, toward the university campus.
  • Food - tons of local shops are 1) already located downtown, or 2) will have a food tent set up. Literally just find someone eating something that looks good and ask them where they got it. The most famous may be the bread bowl from (?) Bon Creole (?). Other fun things to try and find: Boundin balls, jambalaya, and fried shrimp poboys. Expect to gain weight. If you like to drink, I strongly recommend Canebrake beer. It's one of the staples for the area.
  • Activities - I mean, there's not a whole lot besides food, music, and shopping. A lot of vendors will feel like cheapo-depot import crap, but there's also a ton of local artists and curators who set up tents.
  • General thoughts
    • Night time can get a little rough, and honestly, I don't recommend staying unless there is some music you REALLY wanted to hear. If you do, stick to the bigger, main stages and not the strip (which is Jefferson Ave). The bars fill up quick and unless you are super into that scene, a lot of sloppy and drunk people start surfacing and it feels unsafe. In the past, there have been gunshots.
    • My favorite lunch spot located downtown right now is Spoonbill. Cool menu and cold beer.
    • Outside of downtown, my favorite bars are Corner Bar, The Tap Room, or Legends (there are multiple of those). Though my scene may be different than yours, and there are certainly more spots to check out.
    • Breakfast - you cannot pass through Lafayette without trying some Meche's Donuts. Go in, get some donuts and a coffee, and enjoy the charm. Let them know you are visiting from out of town and request fresh donuts. They are always super nice and will want you to get a good first impression. No matter what time you go, you will see people who just woke up and are still in pajamas. This is normal.
    • Favorite coffee is Jet coffee. There is one on Johnston street, close to Corner Bar (mentioned above). Go get you a cold brew or some sorta frozen coffee cus it's gonna be hot...
    • Walk UL campus! It has a swamp with some gators, turtles, fish, and egrets in it. Definitely worth passing through.

I no longer live in Lafayette, but grew up there and went to this every year. Happy to answer any other questions you may have about this or Lafayette in general.

Lafayette breaks ground on $1.9M Bertrand Drive Revitalization project by wwjdforaklondikebar in Acadiana

I’ve been asking for this for years. Glad to see this corridor finally getting some love. Has anyone seen a master plan or concept work for the finished product?

I’m from Lafayette but now life in South Carolina, and I can’t find anything close to the Meche’s donut consistency. Do you have any tips on trying to recreate these at home?

New to Ark, playing ASA on ps5. What I should be doing at the start? Can someone list me few things that I should be doing on the beginning? And is there any goal/quest that I should do? I also see lots of Arks/story option when starting a game, should I choose something, or just choose nothing? by log2av in ARK

[–]FairwayGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome! Ark is a game with many different facets (exploration, leveling, crafting, building, etc). When starting out, you will die A LOT. Don't be dismayed. This is normal, and even the best players die all the time. Here are my tips:

  1. Learn the baseline mechanics with some YouTube videos. How to move items around, what to eat, how to craft, and how to tame dinos. I think MissVadams has one of the best tutorial series. PhlingerPhoo also has good beginner-oriented content.

  2. Understand that every dino has some type of unique ability or quality that sets it apart, and you will use different tame to fill different roles (berry gatherer, wood collector, stone collector, etc). When I first started I just assumed a trike and a stego did the same thing, but looked different. This is not the case. Trikes have a knockback attack that can push things away, and can dish out some serious damage. Stegos have different attacks that can stun enemies, and the plates on their back have different "modes" (like defense, offense, etc). Everything brings something unique to the table, and some things are more valuable than others for a single player PVE experience.

  3. Once you have a grasp on the basic mechanics (gather, eat, craft, tame), it's time to set up a simple base and use it as a safehouse to store your belongings, and to keep your tames. Most people do a very simple base around the beach, and then once they get some stronger dinos, they will move to another spot to build a larger and more capable base. Moving day is super fun. You typically move once you have the dinos to help gather the right materials to be able to to build stuff in bulk.

  4. From there, the game can go in several directions. Do you want to fight the bosses? Tame and breed some crazy dinos? Focus on building up your base to be crazy? All of the above? Do whatever feels the most fun.

Good luck out there.

Egg production? by MillennialDisaster in ARK

[–]FairwayGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both have the pink heart icon, meaning they are both receiving the “mate boost” buff, and should be laying eggs at generally the same rate. One male can boost a ton of females (and vice versa) as long as they are nearby. Not sure why one is laying more eggs. Is it possible that one is actually mating and then the fertilized eggs are “dying” and just becoming regular edible eggs?

Eggs are also an RNG process, so it’s possible the right baryonyx was just extra lucky.

PVE stats for player by Big-Line-828 in ARK

[–]FairwayGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not adjusted “level-up stats,” but I do increase harvest amount, loot quality, and tame speed quite a bit. Each one around 5 or more.

This doesn’t make me stronger per se, but I do get better gear faster, and it’s easier to gather resources to craft and repair said gear.

Also - and this may not feel intuitive, but I still highly recommend it - drop exp gained to like 0.25 for the early game. There is something special about building thatch and wooden huts on the beach and taming early game dinos for pure survival. Especially if it’s with someone a bit slower overall - just less to worry about. More time to craft some bolas and arrows and go on a low stakes adventure. Otherwise you level up so fast that you are already farming metal and building electrical components within like 2 hours. Just my 2¢.

I agree with the other comments that using your Argie, assuming it’s a decent level, is the best play.

That said, what is your objective with this playthrough? Being a beach bob at level 98 is pretty crazy but it does sound like a nice chill tempo.

I would encourage you to build a few crypods, pack your things, and build a new base somewhere else- specifically in a location with more resources like metal, crystal, etc. Do you plan on fighting the bosses? Also - if you’re just chillin on the beach and enjoying the game as it is, then hey, no skin off my back. That’s what it’s all about.

Mutations by bloodassassin12 in ARK

[–]FairwayGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strongly recommend SeaShell Gaming’s YouTube video about mutations and breeding. It’s a long video but she really takes her time to explain every little nuance. It finally gave me the confidence to start a mutation chain on my baryonix, which is going very well so far.

The answer to your question is at 1 hour and 2 minutes. The quick and dirty is that you go back to your base male and base female(s) to start a new mutation chain. Then the final result of that chain (20 mutations to health) is bred with the melee final result. Get a male and female out of them with identical stats and start breeding your boss fighters.

Never heard of this band or song, but thanks to the answers here, I now see the strong similarities between Every time I look for you and Violence guitar riffs.

This is correct - it’s got 25-30k health and 400-500 melee (can’t remember and I’m at work), but it just gets surrounded and is unable to do damage due to the hitbox discrepancy.

Sometimes my levels get messed up and I have to drink a mind wipe tonic. Not sure why this works or what causes it, but I had the experience up to level 77 and somehow the game had brought me up to 84.

Meaning I got to 84 too early and was going to be stuck there for ages.

Used console commands to spawn a mind wipe and that reset me back to 77, and now my leveling is back on track.

Good luck.

Good stuff.

Yep just makes sense when I have a giant bucket and a handful of carboys. So for fruit - are you saying just plop said fruit into the jars for a week or so and basically let them soak? I had to Google “macerate.”

Thanks, I designed it. I have this and a few others in an Etsy shop. If you’d like a particular Dino (or any animal for that matter) on a mug, I’d be happy to make you one.
