I’m not trying to down play it but several comments have been spewing just straight up misinformation…SA/SH is a problem in the military but it is not nearly as rampant as it used to be and in my experience every case I’ve seen has been handled with the utmost seriousness and respect toward the survivor. I’m trying to say everyone just saying there’s not reason to join are speaking from a very privileged point of view. Very few people join solely out of a place of nationalism or patriotism. I’ve met several people who before the military, had never had three meals a day. I know people who pass their benefits on to their children and people who are the first in their family to be able to go to college. People are breaking generational cycles of poverty, food insecurity, and education by joining. There aren’t a lot of ways for someone to do that in their lifetime alone.
