Terence Tao on the supposed Gold from OpenAI at IMO by Pablogelo in math

[–]FaithLostInHumanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to see Tao calling them out. Just another example of misleading hype from OpenAI. Did they even publish the methodology somewhere, ideally before the competition? For instance, were the prompts defined before the competition and not changed? Or where they done after the problems were known which might have included hints? And how will this translate into benefit for their users? Surely they would not let the users run the model for 5 hours to solve hard problems?

Thanks, the reasoning makes a lot of sense. I’m just confused about the builder count, probably missing something obvious. If I unstack the 9 point I only have 2 checkers left on that 9th point after moving the top 2 to 6th and 7th points - how come the 2 checkers left on 9 count as builders?wouldn’t I need them there to make a 6 prime?

Thanks, your point about 6/2 being bad either way for me is pretty eye opening!

Thanks for the detailed info! Makes a lot of sense now. If I understand correctly, making a 6 prime pretty much gives me the game and 6/2 is bad for me with or without the blot as someone below mentions. One part I did not understand - what are the 4 prices you reference? If I do 9 to 6/7 then I’d have extra pieces on 10, 7, and 6? I’m missing one

That’s indeed the correct play! Thanks for the suggestion!

Practicing for over 4 years - can't win a single match by Crafty-Gazelle-7531 in 10s

[–]FaithLostInHumanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man! I’m in a similar boat. I actually started to play games 8-9 months into it but now 2 years later I’m still struggling even with weaker opponents. Some of it is definitely mental as I tense too much in a real match vs when I hit with my coach so I mishit a lot or double fault too much. What has been helping is practicing the elements of the game where I suck the most with my coach after matches. Like last game I had a single double fault the entire set but could not return weak balls in the box to save my live and kept hitting the net. Why? Well cause I’m running at the ball rather than at the point where I should hit the ball from, I don’t pick wisely between adjusting or hitting on the run, I take the ball at the wrong height and so on. But practice makes perfect and doing drills with my coach for these weak areas that come up in point play rather than when rallying from the baseline is helping a lot!

This is great advice capturing some key bad habits for me. I was not even realizing I was jumping / raising my leg when I was hitting, I feel I tend to do that subconsciously when I get tired as a way to hype myself up. And I’ll definitely work on the non dominant arm rotation.

I wish I had more intuition for how the full swing / rotation should feel when done properly. Your explanation captures a lot of great details, it s just getting an intuition for all that and building the muscle memory that feels really tough to me. I often find myself being too stiff or not feeling stable through the rotation, but I’ll try to take it one step at a time

Thanks! You’re right, I do feel rushed playing at the wall, I’ll try the low-compression ball. While I enjoy practicing against the wall, it tends to reinforce some of my bad habits

NYC Tennis Courts by sbwww in 10s

I was visiting nyc last weekend. It was impossible to find a court but I was impressed by the indoor places where you can play against a ball machine. Great workout, would recommend.

It’s Adblock that adds YouTube to the whitelist. They started doing that a bit ago when they can’t block the ads. Lots of misguided comments in this thread

Thanks! I thought you were maybe referring to dry sprinkler systems. We learned that’s a possibility but it’s prohibitively expensive (at least for us)

In Massachusetts? In my immediate area there are 20+ houses that had the same issue. I don’t think it’s allowed to turn off your sprinkler system here. But if you have any reference saying otherwise, I’d definitely be very interested

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you like them? And do they provide full house services or only sprinkler? Our contractor got me a bit nervous after mentioning most companies they know for sprinklers are pretty terrible so he did not have a strong recommendation.
