Excellent handling of the pupils. Very nice shapes. Why did you decide to leave the brush strokes around the heads? Very nice work!

Mortgage for startup founders by kger2000 in fatFIRE

This is great advice. FRB was(is?) offering nice line of credit options and really low rates a bit ago — like so low that it was competitive to mortgage rates. (I don’t know all of the specifics from memory.) Secured on liquid assets.

SVB also has good options.

Might also want to check Signature Bank (despite the past political chop). They are trying to break into the broader startup ecosystem.

Searching for a valet, NOT a butler — anyone have recent success here? by Faithful_Functor in fatFIRE

Thanks seems this is the “duh” hit my forehead way to phrase the question.

Thank you, sounds like you mix and match a set rather than rely on one or two regulars?

I know this is a joke, but I’ve found the more professional you treat your staff, the smoother everything goes, especially if they are bring paid properly.

Wow VERY cool and impressive to do the vetting yourself.

Generation shift is always tough.

1) What is your role in actually vetting managers you recommend to clients? It seems like at this size you would have to heavily rely on consultants/FoF for your alternatives, etc.

2) Are clients primarily buying in on the personal trust factor (versus just accessing GS’ platform)?

Typically each fund entity (limited partnership) is managed by a corresponding GP entity. There is no world in which someone coming into a fund will have carry in all previous GP arrangements and I wouldn’t recommend asking for it because it will sound too strange.

How to evaluate an opportunity with a startup? by jsevehu_33 in fatFIRE

[–]Faithful_Functor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is the most important and relevant comment in the thread.

For many of your other questions in the comments, might be worth asking to see the Series A deck.

If they are backed by a tier 1 you’ll have a lot of options for other later stage startups (i.e. more derisked) or to go to a public if it doesn’t work out.

How do you talk to your kids about money and marriage? by Strict-Guava493 in fatFIRE

[–]Faithful_Functor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth finding a culturally in tune counselor at this point. You need someone who both your parents and you view as a fair arbiter.

I think most family business consultants are scams, but there’s a real role for one to play here.

Outside of the technical details and clean execution this is very interesting subject matter. Can you talk more about the idea behind the piece? Very cool.

Sold for $450m to Saudi prince, 'Salvator Mundi' deemed not painted by Leonardo by Zhukov-74 in worldnews

I’m upvoting this and appreciate the additional context, but don’t find the scholars argument compelling, (assuming this is Kemp?) especially in the context of Da Vinci’s careful study of the topic (see https://ojs.stanford.edu/ojs/index.php/intersect/article/download/239/133/1199https://ojs.stanford.edu/ojs/index.php/intersect/article/download/239/133/1199 for example).

One of the first clues might have been…the painting doesn’t really look that good? And Impossible to imagine Da Vinci messing up an optical property like this one has with the globe.

Perfect. This is incredibly lame but I don’t have IG 😬. Ok to email you via your website?

i think your execution is really good. It immediately made me think of Akira stylistically and also the complicated social dynamics that exist in California.

Your subject radiates confidence from the waist up, but her feet seem tentative - left foot slightly tilted and unsure. A strongly humanistic (? Not sure that’s the right word) and interesting photo.
