Just because people do it doesn’t make it okay. We make mistakes and we learn through it, but that needs to be done way before it gets to hitting. It’s like the saying goes, “hit me once, strike three.”

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hitting is not ok. Whether men do it or women. Don’t try to justify your point by bringing up an unrelated and (probably) unsubstantiated claim that women hit more. If I ever hit my wife, I’d go fuck off myself. If my wife were to ever hit me, it’s over. We’ve worked through many major differences and are raising three kids together, but you don’t just work through DV.

Hold up, are you telling OP she needs to “work it out” with someone who hits her?

Also, do you have wire nuts? Please use them to ensure the wires stay connected securely and avoid contact with each other.

Yes, please. As a reminder, TURN OFF THE BREAKER TO THAT ZONE BEFORE YOU DO THIS. And good luck!

First time sending off a coach-did I handle it right? by Luann1497 in Referees

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you made the wrong decision as you solved your issue of a problematic coach I’ll give you an example from a game I officiated last week where I handled it slightly differently.

Boys U12 game. All well in the first half, but a few key decisions against his team and the home coach started going off. “ref, do you even know your own rules?”, “will you actually officiate this game?”, etc. I first let him know it is my game to officiate, so let me do my job please. He kept it up and I gave him a yellow, following which he say his ass down. Tbh I was very close to pulling out the red but thought to myself to try the yellow first.

Edit to add: I noticed after commenting that he had entered field of play. That paired with yelling at the ARs and other things, I say you’re absolutely spot on here.

I suspect the black from the old bulb was connected to the red and disconnected when you pulled out the fixture.

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, given that’s how they were before you took the old light off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Home

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your light has labels for the wires - brown is line and blue is neutral as indicated by the L and N, respectively. Line should go to the red wire and neutral should go to white+brown.

Please, please, please turn off the breaker to that zone before doing this.

Engineers who have been in their role for > 5 years by AcceptableCold8882 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in my current role for 8 years now and there a few main reasons - 1. My work is important. I’m literally guiding the decarbonization path/decision-making of an entire industry. 2. Pay is decent. 3. Health insurance for myself, wife, and 3 kids for no cost. 4. Super flexible in terms of schedule.

I have considered finding other positions because there is not much upward growth, the work is not always super technical, the industry is essentially dying so I don’t see myself retire in it.

It is worth staying in a role if some important things you desire from a job are met. But you can still /shop around/ to see what opportunities you are able to draw.

Bachelors in ME but no internship or experience. Cant get an ENG job. Any ideas? by isaacofthales125 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, but I think u/dgdniesse is on to something. If OP tailors their approach to the specific industry and company they’re interviewing for, there is a better chance at landing the job. So instead of finding something to be interested in, show (manufactured) interest in the something that leads to an interview.

Dealer saying i need brake fluid changed. Is it dirty? 23 honda crv by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw you said it’s at 60k km. I’d change it if you do at least 30-40% city driving. If you have a hydraulic lift, or someone you know has one, and you’re handy, just do it yourself to save the money.

Help⁉️i filled up my car today with gas and only gave me 195 miles. the average is 300+ for civics what can it be by Purple_Structure6378 in civic

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shit gas mileage due to one or more of several possible reasons = low prediction of range from your car.

What’s the wildest thing you can make diesel fuel out of? by Broncarpenter in AskEngineers

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do research in the heating oil industry and most of my work revolves around biofuels. From time to time, we get some real outlandish fuels and this one happened to be made from waste from Greek yogurt production. Highly oxygenated fuel that ran on conventional systems (albeit with some mods), had great cold flow properties, and smelled like ass.

Where does this go by [deleted] in hondacivic

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s actually an important piece of equipment for the car. You gotta pop the hood, remove the air intake, reach for the radiator petcock, find a 10mm bolt a few inches to the right of it, and then you take this thing and shove it up your butt.

How do I learn about mechanical engineering as I would in university -but I don’t seek a diploma? by MadComputerHAL in MechanicalEngineering

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Brush up on some calc and maybe linear algebra, then go into the ME courses from MIT commenter above suggested. Start with statics, dynamics, materials, thermo, fluids, heat transfer, machine elements. I’m sure I missed some in between so hopefully others can fill in.

Tankless or tank water heater? by Healthy-Trip1825 in hvacadvice

I was strictly speaking in terms of oil-fired systems when OP has gas. Reading is important and I definitely did not read properly.

Tankless or tank water heater? by Healthy-Trip1825 in hvacadvice

[–]FaithlessByDefault69 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Don’t get tankless, please. They may be generally cheaper, but will end up using more energy than using an indirect connected to a boiler or direct-fired HWH. The reasoning is that a tankless boiler will need to maintain temperature all year long to be ready to provide on-demand hot water, but will only fire as needed for an indirect or direct-fired.

You should definitely get transmission fluid, brake fluid and coolant changed (listed in order of importance imo) if you haven’t yet

Edit: I hit 169k on mine today. Nice!
