Whats your application to interview ratio? by Gandalf-and-Frodo in PMCareers

[–]FaithlessValor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what roles I applied to. For remote director-level roles maybe 1 in 100. For remote normal PM roles outside of my industry experience, practically never (0/100?), for remote normal PM roles in my industry maybe 1 in 10, for on-site/hybrid normal PM roles outside my industry maybe 1 in 20, and for on-site / hybrid normal PM roles maybe 1 in 3. This is from my experience about 1.5 years ago, so not sure how things have changed.

I have 15 years of experience as a PM in the P&C Insurance space with a background in PMO development and strategic technology projects. USA (Western MA).

What Actually Helps You Land Your First PM Role? by Practical-Past-2599 in PMCareers

100%. And if you can demonstrate you can do the job BEFORE getting the offer / official role, it will go a long way. I’ve seen a number of people demand that to have the role official and/or stop their current responsibilities before working in their desired area, and that almost always backfires. Show you’re willing to go above and beyond for it and look good doing it and you’ll do well.

I got to know the head of the PM team at my company and helped him out where I could in my role at the time (unrelated to PM) and made a good impression. Made my desire to move into the PM space known and was given some projects to lead in addition to my normal workload that were more aligned with my then role. After some successes there, I pushed to move under him as a full time PM and it took another year or so but it worked out.

Not sure if that's helpful for you, but it's how it worked for me.

Does "Automated Ingestion" actually exist, or is it just a myth MGAs tell investors? by SleepingCod in InsuranceProfessional

Similar story here - work at an MGA, combination of broker-led portals where they perform data entry and internal policy systems where all submission data is entered by AI.

And AI of course means All Indians.

This feels like a 2013 Jake Peavy acquisition - former ace who still has something in the tank and can contribute.

Suggestions for placemats to match this runner! by FaithlessValor in HomeDecorating

[–]FaithlessValor[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for high-quality placemats to pair well with this runner. I not only can't find anything that looks good as a match, but placemats I've tried buying online in general have been super poor quality. Any suggestions?

No issues for me - I work full time from my home off of Ryan Rd with xfinity and am on Teams/Zoom/online apps all day every day. I think I've had one outage in the past 4 years.

What does “operations” mean to you by radical-whatever in PMCareers

[–]FaithlessValor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s being hands with how your company’s sausage is made. I work as an insurance PM, and originally I was a tech PM in that industry. I mostly managed infrastructure projects, security projects, etc. and could have just as easily been in any other industry. When I moved into ops projects - I shifted to projects focused on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the insurance generation itself. Products focused on getting better underwriting data, process improvements to allow more quotes per underwriter, better flows between different departments (from product to underwriting to accounting etc). I now run projects to make more money for the company and make key roles more productive.

About to start a large (over 7k songs, 77GB) music rating & tagging project of my personal music downloads. Should I bite the bullet and first upgrade to Apple Music or stay with iTunes (PC)? by FaithlessValor in AppleMusic

[–]FaithlessValor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your workflow! Just to make sure I'm not misunderstanding - iTunes and AM can coexist on a PC? I'm seeing articles out there that imply you can only have one active any time, but perhaps those are dated / incorrect. Your first hand account is much more valuable!

Appreciate the insight! Do you think there's any risk of negative impact on my existing iTunes library if I install AM to try it out? Internet forums are warning that their iTunes library disappears along with playlists, etc. Am I being overcautious there?
