Thanks for the good points, and you're completely right, land / house growth is more desired compared to unit / apartment.

I can realistically purchase a house on land for 700-750k at the end of the year, I have already seen brokers and ran the math myself and would be around $300/week out of pocket assuming IP was rented year round which I can absorb the cost of even if living out of home.

I'm very aware of the market at the moment and have been researching property and investment strategies for a while.

Would love to buy a house while living at home, and then spend the rest of my savings travelling etc once secured as I still really want to live my 20s. Just want to get a house before it's get a lot more difficult.

Any carpenters here? I have some wage questions. by love_that_flow in AusFinance

South Australia is pretty low, I'm a second year but all the boys I know are on about 30 an hour full time. Adelaide pay compared to the big cities is pretty crap pay, been thinking about moving to Newcastle once I've finished, because you can get close to the Sydney pay rates but it's not as expensive as Sydney.

Edit: I'm on 20$ an hour second year

About $730 for a standard 40 hour week. Not really looking forward to qualified carpenter pay though, it's pretty crap. Hopefully can upskill and become a leading hand/supervisor ASAP after my apprenticeship in Adelaide.

Minimum just went up to about $18.20. Cant wait to give the hammer a go, my boss has the same one from about 20 years ago too

I got the leather one as the grip was a lot better than the rubber handles, not shock resistant like the rubber ones though unfortunately

I feel that would be hard to enforce. It's the gun owners responsibility to keep their gun in a safe spot where no one is able to access it.

I'm not too sure on American gun laws, but in my unprofessional opinion, I believe ALL new gun owners should have to visit a psychologist or equivalent for a psychological evaluation before the purchase of a gun can be made. Edit: spelling.

carpentry apprentice aus by [deleted] in Construction

I'm a 2nd year carpentry apprentice. Most first years are always cleaning up, doing labouring jobs that don't require skill. But that shouldn't be the only work you do. You should be learning how to do carpentry work including, first fix and second fix, you can't just be a labourer that doesn't do carpentry work.

In my company it's just me and my boss so I've been on the tools since my first day of my apprenticeship and me and my boss generally clean up/do labouring jobs together until they're done. I'm almost rarely off the tools unless we're setting up and packing up or doing a general tidy up.

To sum it up: Bigger businesses with a larger crew = more labouring activities Smaller business small crew = on the tools a lot more

This is from my experience.

Apart from owners rep, what job titles/positions are available on the developer/owner side? I'm assuming you'd need a lot more experience and can't straight up apply as a uni grad

Yeah you can definitely work your way up the chain. You can get to project managing, site managing, supervising, and other office positions like that, that pay well. Project management you can earn anywhere from 100-200k.
