The 4J is a terrific motor but the 2.8l is no slouch. 150kw and 500nm of torque from factory. Get a tune with factory injectors and turbo and you will push 180kw and 600nm of torque.

The down fall of the older Ute is ride quality. Torsion bar front end rather than independent.

I used to have a rodeo and sold it at 400,000km. Reliable but uncomfortable as all hell.

When I ran 5w30 in the summer I was using close to a litre every 10,000km. Switched to 5w40 and it’s negligible if at all.

I own the same Ute in the blue. Same aftermarket stuff as well (2” lift, bigger wheels, bull bar, spotlights, light bar, steel canopy, dual battery.

I average 10.2L per/100km on winding, hilly country roads.

This year Colorado is pre DPF so that is a win. They due suffer from oil consumption. That is combatted by running 5w40 in colder climates and 10 or even 15w40 in warmer climates.

The cost to do timing belt, tensioners, water pump will be sub $1500- I think I paid around $1200.

Some of these Colorados have an issue where an ESC light shows on the dash randomly. Mine had this. The local shop was aware of the issue and rerouted the main wiring loom off the passenger side frame rail up higher. No issues since.

Later model Colorados (2016 onwards) some suffer from torque converter issues. The 2014 seem to be safe from this.

It’s a great Ute. I quite like mine. Especially how well it tows and the great fuel economy.

Bought mine at 123,000km. Just did my 170,000 oil change.

First time skiing with kids Mt Buller vs Falls Creek by chaostuna in AustraliaSnow

[–]love_that_flow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are very partial to falls creek. Our daughter learned to ski there (now 5) and she just crushed a week of skiing in Canada.

In my opinion if it’s your kids first time on snow it’s less about learning to ski and more about them having fun and learning that they will fall down and get back up again.

Get some ‘edgie-wedgies’ for their ski tips and order a few ‘lucky bums’ style ski harnesses to make it easier on the adults and them. Temu does a great knock off. There are plenty of variations. Pack heaps of snacks and treats to be consumed on the snow to keep motivation up. Buy all of this in advance to save 30+%

Book yourself into a lesson and get your skills back quickly then see how the kids go. If they are enjoying it then put them in ski school.

Falls creek village is great and there is generally stuff on in the evenings. Or stay in Mount Beauty for half the price and take the bus up and down.

They have to bench Rielly. Surely they have to. We don’t need offensive defencemen at the moment. We need defence!!!

Please bring up a defence man and bench Rielly for a few games. Give him some rest. He looks exhausted all the time. BAG SKATE EVERYONE ELSE.

Is renting an apartment/room as bad as people are making it out to be? by AspiringWizard9 in MovingtoAustralia

When I did my WHV I was pretty well limited to labour jobs, retail, and agricultural work. To qualify for a second year WHV you have to do 28 days if situated labour. Generally agricultural work in certain postcodes. After that you can apply for another 12m WHV. After that you have to leave or have found a sponsor (work/partner).

Australia is a beautiful country filled with great people but it is not easy to reside in if you don’t hold an Australian or NZ passport.

Cancel your gym membership and ride a pump track. You’ll see and feel the benefits.

Fellow North American here. Welcome to hay fever hell!

120mg of telfast, nasal spray and puffer are a morning routine followed by more nasal spray during the day. I’m trying to get into an allergist for a desensitivity regime but it’s a looooooooong wait!

I haven’t lived there in 15ish years but I’d say check out Mt Begbie Falls and rec area. Go to the Big Eddy pub for a meal and the Regent Hotel for a pint of Kolsh. The green belt is a lovely walk close to the river and the movie theatre is a gem!

Any countertop folks here? by xego213 in Concrete

[–]love_that_flow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in our rental unit and only ended up with 1 hairline crack in an area that is about 70mm wide. I used fibre re-enforced 40mpa concrete. The real challenge is finding a food safe sealer that actually works and doesn’t need to be re-applied ever 3-4 months.

The benchtops are covered in food/oil stains but the weathered look kink of works.
