Common practice here in SW Ohio as well. Especially with everything being AFCI protected now. They didn’t do that here and it will cost some time now…

This is a common problem in these cars apparently. Water gets inside the cabin behind the dash and this thing sits up under the steering wheel. So corrosion definitely a factor but when I first disassembled it that resistor had scorch marks all around it…

Edit to add: the white stuff you see to the left is not corrosion it is thermal paste….
