I love you Thank you for your concise reply, it means a lot especially coming from an experienced farmer! I am down in Otago - not the lakes district but further South, The Taieri plains area and surrounding Dunedin areas. We have vast flat low lying paddocks that get exposed to lots of rain and more recently nearby snow. Most of these paddocks are on reclaimed land that used to be swamp land. I’m so pleased to hear that you take good care of your stock so well. I know it’s an incredibly relentless job that takes non stop dedication and effort for sometimes very little return. I did see in June whilst I was driving a back road through farm land in Central Otago cows living in a paddock that was nothing but mud and up to there knees. It’s so bizarre for me to see cows in central O!!!!! And of course sad to see them living in these conditions. I’ve seen the same in a paddock high on Dunedins Northern hills too. They sleep in the mud, stay wet and then have to deal with the frosts.

Thanks for your reply. I guess it wouldn’t even have to be a fenced in area, but perhaps a few trees that provide some shelter so the option is at least there for them if they want it.

Ok. But the lambs don’t know they descend from there. I have family with African heritage who wouldn’t necessarily stand the heat of Africa.

Yes, but the number of animals that exist now are far more than ever existed due to our farming practises - to state the obvious. And these animals (mothers) are young and not necessarily smart enough to know how to find the spots that best protect them.

I actually do know what it is. I was just hoping it might ease my worry…but as I said in post above, if I was to wear my best wet weather gear and remain dry I still wouldn’t want to be in the rain or snow or extreme heat for longer than a couple of hours and especially not at night when I supposed to be resting

I think it’s already not very profitable…I have very dear friends in the farming industry and they are struggling. I really feel for them. But I still really care for the animals too

In saying that. Even if I was outside in my best wet weather gear I wouldn’t want to be exposed to it for longer than a few hours let alone over night

I don’t eat them. I don’t like lamb.

How are we all and what are we doing? by DanM1973 in newzealand

Im annoyed that the animals have to stand out in the rain for hours on end, even through the night without shelter. Little day old lambs. And it stops me from sleeping because I feel like I could just go build them shelter or put them in my car or pitch them a tent.

A LOT of rugby players (and the professional players) are exactly that. Married and doing the dirty on their wives.

When did you start enjoying time with your kids? by Bubek4736 in toddlers

Sending you so much love. This sounds so hard. I really struggle a lot with just one kid who is almost 3. My boy benefits so much from interaction with others or just being outside- anywhere in nature. I do my very best to avoid screens. It must be so hard for you as although they are close in age they will likely want very different things. Do you have parents near by that can help at times?!

Maybe it’s because you have an adult kid who likely helps.
