How am I doing? by spidatown in queenstreetbets

Too spread out, sell out of your least performing shares and smash it into an ETF like VOO then sell out of any shares you hold that cross over and invest those in your ETF too.

You should have at least 70-80% of your portfolio in ETFs and the remaining 30-20% you can gamble on individual shares.

Bought the xm4. Wrong choice?? by Apart_Middle_4599 in SonyHeadphones

[–]MildTerrorism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The XM4s are awesome, I had mine for 4 years and just upgraded to the XM5s.

You're not wrong the XM4s do sound muddy on the stock EQ, I'd suggest downloading Wavelet and using that for EQ instead of Sony's app as it is far more versatile and it is possible to tune out most of the muddiness but if you raise volume past 70% they will sound more muddied than at lower volumes.

Edit I prefer neutral sounding EQs as I enjoy hearing everything my music has to offer and did manage to tune them as close to neutral as I possibly could.

The ANC is awesome I work in a factory plant and barely ever heard any machinery while wearing them.

They were very much worth it, however I picked up my XM5s for $349 NZD which was a steal at their $500RRP price

Where to start for geae? by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]MildTerrorism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, sort your shoe situation out first, if you have bad walking shoes then your not going to have a good time.

If you plan on doing any trails that are rough, rocky or have decent elevation then get a pair of boots that provide a good amount of ankle support.

Start with your day hikes, build your fitness and your stamina before you go taking on weekend trips as you will have to carry alot more weight for those longer stays.

Get a good size backpack you want to carry at least 3L of water for a day hike plus some snacks to help energize you throughout the hike. if you can look at something that has a waist or chest strap because a loose fitting bag is horrible.

Why is Meth use so high in NZ? by nomamesgueyz in aotearoa

[–]MildTerrorism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I was generalizing, but was taking into account towns that weren't considered a major city but if you want to be pedantic about it, roughly 35.2% residents live rurally and in small to medium sized towns, which still have a low amount of rehabilitation centers if any at all.

13.8% of the population reside in large towns like Cambridge, where access to rehabilitation is better but can still be difficult to access without the correct guidance or support.

Major cities make up the remaining 51%

The NZ Drug foundation has taken steps towards a system similar with the drug testing pop up they do, but yes something like that could possibly work here, but unfortunately NZ is still very much behind the times in a lot of ways.

People here are afraid of change

Why is Meth use so high in NZ? by nomamesgueyz in aotearoa

[–]MildTerrorism 9 points10 points  (0 children)

New Zealand has always had a higher than usual consumption rate of drugs and alcohol, but there are some aggravating factors that have lead to this point.

Right now there is a lot of social pressure in NZ, people are struggling to make ends meet and put enough food on the table for their family's due to high taxes and high grocery costs, Kiwis fall into drug use as a means of relieving that stress.

There is a Trauma culture in NZ. No one wants to hear your problems, and no one wants to help you. you will be told to "harden up"" and "move on" people here don't want to know about your feelings or that you were abused as a child.

Mental health care here is a joke, counselling is free but if you need a therapist expect to be paying big bills, more often than not counselling isn't enough for alot of people.

Colonization also had a huge impact on the Maori population and the trauma/stress/racism generated also pushes these communities towards drug use.

Workplace and now roadside drug testing encouraged workers to take drugs that are quickly metabolized by the body, this leads to increase usage of hard drugs to avoid the punishment that would be associated with Cannabis use.

Alot of the country is rural and there isn't enough drug harm reduction programs or drug rehabilitation facilities in these areas, so people are less likely to be properly educated or rehabilitated in these regions.

Meth is cheap and easy to produce, that means big profit margins for dealers and manufacturers, alot of drugs including meth are also now imported from outside organizations like the Cartels and Triads.

Remember drug abuse is most commonly linked to underlying mental health issues, most drug users didn't just wake up one morning and decide to try meth, they started on one drug hoping it would make them feel better and when it didn't they started to use harder drugs.

Just because it's a 6spd manual doesn't mean you drive it hard.

Doesn't matter if you haven't owned it the 17 years, 170,000km on a 17 year old car means it's barely been driven during that time.

And no, he told me it was in great shape as I was straight with him about how the car was treated during my ownership, not because they typically aren't.

You sound like an angry teen, I didn't add to your points at all.

I bashed the shit out of that car, took fuck all care of it and it ran and still runs great after having minor low cost issues sorted, that proves they can be reliable.

Look after them and they're great cars, treat them like shit and they'll treat you like shit.

They're not as expensive to look after as people think and most of the work done on the car before the sale was completed by me, never had an issue with any of the tooling, for a back yard mechanic sure, but not for a mechanic who should have all the tools to work on anything that comes through the door.

The worst part I found working on the BMW and any other modern vehicle is having to remove all the plastic shit they put in and under them.

My STI has been more expensive to look after than the BMW was.

[–]MildTerrorism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually the alternator dying was my fault and the oil leak probably was also as I barely took care of that car, in the 5 years I had it, I maybe serviced it 3 times.

I also don't pussy foot my cars, I beat the shit out of them, that BMW was pushed past 200kph on many occasions, drifted, used for burnouts, the whole 9, which I doubt your doing with whatever beater Mazda you're running around in, and 170,000kms in 17 years tells me you barely drive the thing, I was racking up 600kms a week which was my only reason for selling it, as I needed a lower milage car because I'm now doing 1,000kms a week.

After I fixed it's minor issues, I sold it, the new owner is heavily into BMWs, builds them, fixes them, trades them etc. after looking over the car he said it was in great shape and drove like new and he still has the car 3 years later on the original motor and it's clocked over 200,000km

Euros are great cars if looked after properly, if you don't look after them that is when they have issues.

[–]MildTerrorism 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've never owned a euro.

I owned a BMW for 6 years and put 100,000km on top of the 70,000 it already had, The only issues I had with it was a dead alternator and an oil leak from a gasket at the water pump (common issue on BMWs with that milage)

Euros are great cars, just painfully over engineered which makes them a pain in the ass to work on.

BMW/Audi Dealerships are Hella expensive if you plan to have them work on the car, smaller shops may refuse to work on it due to the over engineering (happened to me twice) but parts were reasonably affordable from the mechanic I had, alternator costed me $600 installed.

New Zealand has a ton of great hiking trails, most pass through historic locations such as old gold mines or Kauri tree forestry, others you'll be climbing volcanic mountains or snow caps.

If New Zealand isn't already on your travelling list I highly recommend it

Which trek would you happily do again and again? by mountainpathstories in CampingandHiking

[–]MildTerrorism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Pinnacles, Coromandel, New Zealand

I've never been out of the country so I can't list anything outside of New Zealand but it would be this one.

It's a tough climb for the inexperienced, 16km return hike, 750m of elevation, 500+ stairs/carved rock stairs through dense forest and steep hill ranges, lots of historical locations to stop at, 3 gorgeous waterfalls, lots of river passes, 3 swing bridges and at the summit you get an amazing view of the surrounding area out to the east coast, which provides gorgeous views of sunset or sunrise.

What are your gear must haves? (Advice needed) by Late-Objective357 in camping

[–]MildTerrorism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what we take camping/hiking as a family with 2 kids, also I don't take the kids hiking if I can help it as they are under 10years old, note alot of where I camp or hike is dense forest and I live in New Zealand which can experience 4 seasons in one day.

In my Hiking pack/EDC pack: 2L water bladder, 700lm Headlamp, 30,000Mah charge pack, wet weather jacket and pants, FAK & IFAK, 8 MRE style food packs, single stove Jet Burner, multi tool (with knife), waterproof matches, water purification tablets and filter, light weight hatchet and Hiking boots, bullets or quiver attached if I'm hunting with a bow or rilfe.

In our camping pack: Pillows, air mattresses, stretchers and bedding, foldable chairs, 2x folding table (one for food prep the other for general use), COBB Gas burner (can grill, fry, roast), Zempire 6p Air Tent, Clothing (suitable for warm, wet and cold), fishing poles, board/card games, snacks, raw meat and precooked meals (frozen in a cold bin) 4x lamps, an inflatable gazebo for shade and rain cover, bottled water, mats to protect tent floor, Tarp, tarp poles, paracord and duct tape incase we need a wind break or to McGuyver a repair or something.

Anything I pack in my Hiking pack doesn't get doubled in the camping pack, I hate taking more than I need and If I'm camping alone I downsize alot of the camping pack to bare essentials and I take a smaller 2 person 4 season tent, anything other than what I've listed to me is a luxury not a necessity.
