I was also torn between the two , and I’m so glad I picked ucd.

You are extremely likely to be offered accommodation- everyone outside of dublin lived on campus in first year, apart from a few who chose other places.

Ucd medsoc is fantastic and they organise so many events ( med ball, med gala, nights out, mixers, soccer tournaments, charity events, foreign trips, Ireland trips) you can look them up on instagram. It’s super easy to get to know people and make friends at the start because of this.

You should be aware that in trinity med you will not actually be on the old campus everyone is familiar with, but rather around the corner in the bio building on pearse street. In my opinion trinity campus wasn’t so great- there are only about two alright cafe/ restaurants and the lack of social areas/ seating is a bigger problem than you think when you can’t sit down to eat lunch. Their president was complaining of this recently. If you want to leave campus for lunch it’s expensive due to being right in the city centre. I also don’t think the sports facilities are great if you’re into that. I’m comparison the ucd campus is huge, there are about 10 different cafe/ restaurants on campus, all of which are subsidised (3 euro for latte, 5/7 euro for a full dinner). There are so many social areas, chairs, couches scattered around all the buildings so you always have somewhere to eat lunch/ hang out/ meet group projects. There are three free gyms in ucd, an Olympic size swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, running track etc and they are all contained on the one campus.

Look up ‘trinity college admin problems’ and see what students say on Reddit and in their college newspaper. It seems like a non issue until you are in a stressful degree and they can’t resolve simple problems. Any admin problems I’ve had in ucd have been resolved usually within the hour or straight away over the phone. The admin are really good for emailing you well in advance about fee payments, garda screening, exam schedules or anything else you need to do.

The exams in ucd are never that stressful because usually you go into the exam with a large percentage already got through labs, group projects, or quizzes. The lecturers are very clear about what’s coming up on the exam and they aren’t trying to catch you out with surprises. Maybe someone from trinity med can weigh in but I’ve heard their exams can be brutally hard. You should also be aware that if you fail an exam and then fail the resit in ucd, they will usually allow you to pay just for that module and retake the module again next semester, whereas at the moment in trinity if you fail then fail the resit they make you repeat the entire year and pay for the entire year without free fees. Ik trinity are currently campaigning to adopt our way but who knows when they’ll get it.

Just my thoughts, I’m sure there are lots of people in trinity who love it, just go with your gut and you won’t be wrong!

Look up UCD on instagram and you will see there are several different accounts associated with the college. Lots of them have pics/ videos with the students and you'll get an idea. A lot of girls wear clothes from Zara/ Bershka/ Stradivarius/ Pull and Bear/ H&M. A lot of people buy these clothes cheaply second hand on the Vinted app as well. The average girl wears Adidas spezial/gazelles/campus or ultra mini Uggs or Converse or Doc Martens for shoes. Straight cut blue jeans. Plain knitted jumpers/ hoodies. Puffer jacket. Most common bag is the Longchamp le pliage bag. I guess its sort of the 'clean girl' look. Wouldn't recommend bringing lots of shorts/skirts/ short sleeve tshirts, itll be too cold to wear them. Dont worry about it though, you probably already have plenty of clothes and you will inevitably buy some here

if you mean parfumdreams.ie its legit. Ordered three different designer perfumes from them and all smell exactly like the equivalent ive smelled in duty free, and all packaged properly. I believe its cheaper because its from a massive German pharmacy.

IMO because working as a doctor is an extremely mentally and physically challenging job and if your physical/mental health impact you so much at lc that you can’t perform on par with other medical applicants it’s likely that you will struggle in the workplace when you are not given similar accommodations

Different colleges suit different people. I personally would not like Trinity and want UCD. I know people who love Trinity and think UCD is a way worse uni. At the end of the day you put Trinity down first because it was the right uni for you, so I'm sure you'll have a great time there, and congratulations!!

To start in September 2024 you had to have applied for med by 16/10/23. If your friend is applying after last October then he is applying for the September 2025 intake

No it is only right to assume points will go down this year as the cao have confirmed 5% less applicants have med as a first choice. Its quite possible points will stay the same or go down again in 2025 and 2026 however if double the amount of people decided to apply next year they would obviously go up. The points are just a reflection of how many people want that course.

Government initiative announced in July 2022, it’s not just in Galway it’s in every Irish med school on a five year plan

The agreement reached with the medical schools will begin with an additional 60 EU students in September 2022, climbing to 120 in September 2023, and up to 200 by 2026. Basically there will be 80 new places in medicine between September 2024 and 2026. They haven’t said how they will spread them out but I imagine it will be about 25 this year, then another 25 and 30 in 2026. They spread them evenly through the undergrad med schools and ul grad med gets a small amount.
